Arts and Humanities Council of Falls Church Meeting June 17, 2021 Virtual Meeting Minutes Members Present: Corey Jannicelli, Letty Hardi, Ed Henderson, Marybeth Connelly, Laura Hull, Ellen Gross, Ron Anzalone Guests: Keith Thurston (CATCH Foundation) Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Laura Hull at 9:38 am. Receipt of Public Comments  No comments were received Minutes: We were unable to approve April minutes due to a lack of a quorum New Business:  No new business presented at this meeting Old Business: Digital Inventory/ Falls Church Art Walk  Corey Jannicelli and student liaisons from the EDA and Rec & Park Advisory boards have been collecting images and information on the Public Art in Falls Church using a google page platform.  The most recent work has been pinning all the coordinates onto a google map  Next steps is to identify good walking paths based on the locations of the art  Access to the page can be found through this link - https://sites.google.com/view/falls-church-art-walk/home Guidelines for City Hall Public Art  Corey Jannicelli continues to work with Emily Blazemore on creating goals and guidelines for selecting and funding new works of art for City Hall including additional portraits for City Chambers  Content currently drafted includes background on the project, explanation of community support, project goals, funding options, timing, criteria for selecting individuals for portraits along with criteria for evaluating recommendations.  Next steps include creating the process for collecting recommendations and identifying those individuals or groups who should play a role in the evaluation. George Mason Commemorative Bust 1   Corey Jannicelli has prepared for a facilitated conversation about the commemorative bust with the Arts and Humanities Council (AHC) but there is interest in having a larger citywide conversation around the topic.  The AHC will therefore wait to have their conversation, in line with, the greater community conversation. Tinner Hill Mural District  Ed Henderson reported that 4 or 5 buildings are on board to allow the use of their building for a mural  THHF has written permission for Mrs. Parks, the owner of the Bike Club on Wallace Street to use the wall for their project  THHF is still acquiring funding for the project but currently has enough funds for 1 or 2 murals Roundtable Discussions  VPIS o Hosting meeting this fall with the league of Women Voters and Citizens for a Better City o Summer Concerts start this month with food trucks each week o T-shirt fundraiser through June 30- T-shirts say “enjoy the shade” o VPIS provided funding to the Women’s History Walk this year  Victorian Society o Offering only virtual programs this summer and look to offer in person programs this fall  Historical Commission o JETI initiative based on Council work plan o Supported the Women’s History Walk o Reviewing the mainstreaming of AP History in the schools  Tinner Hill o June 19th –One-year anniversary of silent witness event with Juneteenth commemoration from noon -1 pm o Tickets for Music Festival available on Eventbrite o July 10th virtual event with Mark Meadows called “Don’t Believe Them” focused on the Black Lives Matter Movement with Q&A and Mini Concert o June 26 event at Going Down Easy to support Music Festival  Creative Cauldron o Hosting Always Patsy Clien in Cherry Hill Park, rescheduling several rained out events. Had 4 different actors portray Patsy as part of effort to expand diversity. o June 25 starts Daddy Longlegs production in the park o Summer Concerts and Cabaret will follow through August 28 o Summer Camp at Creative Cauldron started this week o Creative Cauldron will begin offering indoor performances this fall with smaller audiences o Theatre Washington completed its last JEDI training by creating a value statements and action steps on how to change structures and policies  Creative Cauldron has created a 10 person JEDI Committee 2   Cherry Hill o Saturday morning tours will resume on June 26 o Summer Camp begins in July  CATCH o July 4th Reading will take place this year at the Historic Falls Church  Falls Church Arts o Plein Air Festival taking place early October o Some indoor programs are starting at Falls Church Arts Adjourn Meeting was adjourned at 11:08 am Next Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 15th Submitted: By Corey Jannicelli 3
