Aurora House Citizen’s Advisory Committee 5/8/14 Old Business 1. Review of minutes from last meeting 2. Group Home Manager’s Report a. Utilization – approximately 50% YTD for FY14 b. Work continues on determining appropriate redesign for program services to address utilization issues; exploring option of providing residential services to pre-dispositional cases (not emergency sheltercare) c. In VJCCCA 2013 Plan evaluation, program met all performance outcome measurements except utilization. (Recidivism, GPA and monthly grade improvement) d. Staff – new employee resigned from SAA position the beginning of April; we were fortunate that we did not need to recruit again, and offered position to the second candidate; hope to have new person starting the position by the end of May or early June upon completion of background checks e. New Summer Internship Program – CFC has a new program initiative for paid internships, and Aurora House will be having a paid intern for the summer months. The intern will be under the supervision, training and guidance of the direct care staff in the development and implementation of the summer programming for the girls. If this works well, it offers us an avenue to obtain potential direct care staff as well for relief, and offers the intern (all interns are a minimum of undergraduate/graduate students in the field(s) of social work, psychology, therapeutic recreation or criminal justice) paid experience. Scholarship Applications: a. AMA b. JW c. RF We are likely to have 3-4 applications from recent graduates in June. AH would like to explore possibility of having an annual 5k to raise funds for the scholarship program – proposal – Dedicate the annual race to Leah Porzel and name it after her. Key events the next few months: 1. Two planned enrichment/recreation excursions for summer: June – Overnight trip to NYC; August – Overnight trip to Pa (rafting/biking/hiking) event 2.
