MINUTES
HOUSING COMMISSION
PURPOSE OF MEETING: The five-member Commission is appointed by the City Council for
three-year terms. The Housing Commission maintains awareness of housing needs and
opportunities, including affordable housing; proposes housing policy initiatives and changes;
investigates fair housing complaints and conciliates these complaints; mediates conflicts relating
to the Virginia Residential Landlord & Tenant Act and offers reconciliatory services in conflicts
relating to other housing laws.

TOPICS OF DISCUSSION:
The Community meeting on the Miller House was held in the Dogwood Training room at 6:30
pm before the Commission meeting. All commissioners attended.
Vice Chair Julio Idrobo called the meeting to order at 8:00 pm.
Approval of Minutes: On the motion of Vice Chair Julio Idrobo, seconded by Donald Brobst,
the minutes of the June 2014 meeting were approved.
CDBG Application process begins August 15
Staff Lewis reiterated to all members to do outreach to try to bring on board new non-profits,
ADU Lottery
There will be an ADU lottery on August 19th for a 2 bedroom unit at Pearson Square.
Commissioners will do their best to be there.
Miller House Comments
Chair Idrobo guided the group through a discussion on what type of comments the group would
like to submit from the Housing Commission. The group is in support of the staff request to issue
an Request For Proposal for the development of a group home. The Chair will incorporate
everyone’s comments and submit on behalf of the group. The group was in support of this.
Sprague Liaison Report - All
There was not anything to report.
National Association of County Community and Economic Development (NACCED)
conference Sept. 28 – Oct. 1st, Arlington County
Staff Lewis shared information about this upcoming conference.
Recruitment of New Commissioner – Vice Chair Idrobo
Commissioners need to work on outreach to try to bring on board new member before CDBG
public hearings start. A citizen has applied but there may be an issue with too much
representation from one company. Commissioner Brobst will conduct outreach to the FCHC.
Staff Report
West and Broad New Development Update – Staff Lewis
Commissioner’s comments are requested on the new plan particularly the Voluntary
Concessions. Staff Lewis will send out the packet and commissioners should come prepared to
discuss.
