Page 1 of 2 MINUTES Human Services Advisory Council City of Falls Church PURPOSE OF MEETING: To advise City Council on human services delivery to Falls Church citizens. DATE OF MEETING: January 9, 2014 PLACE OF MEETING: Oak Room, 3rd floor East, City Hall MEETING CALLED TO ORDER BY: Vicki Barnes AT 6:35 pm THOSE PRESENT: HSAC Members: Staff : Vicki Barnes Sue Richter Craig Cheney Housing and Human Services David Rogers Christina Crockett TOPICS OF DISCUSSION: • Call to Order: Vicki Barnes called the meeting to order at 6:35 pm • There were no petitions • Approval of Minutes: No prior meeting minutes were presented for approval. OLD BUSINESS: • Miller House – A Request for Information was published November 26, 2013 to gather additional information from interested parties on possible public uses for the house/land. Responses originally were due January 14, 2014, but the deadline was extended to January 21, 2014. • Fairfax County contracted services report – Sue reported that a services survey and audit report were requested from Fairfax in November and email to HSAC. She also answered questions pertaining to the data charts. NEW BUSINESS: • Community Services Fund – HSAC members began reviewing grant applications and expressed interest in inviting certain new funding applicants to the next HSAC meeting for an informal discussion about their programs and the intended use of grant funds. Members approved grant applications for Health Systems Agency of Northern Virginia, Legal Services of Northern Virginia, and Metropolitan Washington EAR. Final decisions on the remaining grant applications will be made at the next HSAC meeting. • Annual report to City Council – The annual report has not been finalized at this time. Page 2 of 2 STAFF REPORT: • CivicPlus was selected as City contractor responsible for updating the City’s website. • The City Attorney search efforts are ongoing. • The Falls Church City Water Department had a smooth transition to Fairfax County Water Authority. • The Mobile Food Vendor Ordinance passed in December. • The Kaiser parking deck (second level) is available for public parking on the weekends, Friday evening through Sunday. • Northgate will open in March, and tenants for the 7 ADU rental units have been selected. • A new traffic light will be installed at West Broad Street and Pennsylvania. • The Winter Shelter opened early for Christmas and remained open all day last Tuesday, January 7, 2014, due to the extreme weather. • The City’s 2013 Affordable Housing Report was issued MEETING ADJOURNMENT: The meeting adjourned at 7:45 pm. The next meeting will be Thursday, February 13.
