4. Recreation Director’s Report
a) Fall sports are in their final weeks. Outdoor sports programming is definitely in need of
more field space within the city. Basketball season has arrived as tryouts have started
this week. Registration numbers are on track.
b) The grand re-opening of West End Park was a great success. Many people attended the
celebration and event well after programming was complete to enjoy the park.
c) Farm Day was a great success. A large number of neighbors and children attended.
d) Halloween Carnival: The schools (via the SCA) also held an event with the same type of
programming. Our program was very well attended, as was the school’s event. It is quite
clear that the City has grown and there are plenty of patrons to participate in
programming
e) The Veteran’s Day ceremony will take place next Wednesday in front of the
memorial. The wife of Major General Green who was a Falls Church resident will be
speaking at the event.
f) The holiday craft show is quickly approaching and will take place the first weekend of
December.
g) Interviewing for the Summer Camp/Teen Center position has commenced. The Cherry
Hill Farmhouse will be a bit more challenging to fill because of specialized nature of the
position. The Senior Admin Assistant position which has recently become vacant will
also be posted soon.
5. New Business
a) Play Streets: Andrea Caumont with the Citizens Advisory Commission of Transportation
(CACT) presented on the Play Streets and the possibility of bringing them into the city.
6. Old Business
a) Park project updates
1. Preliminary planning has begun to update the playground equipment Cherry Hill
Park. Plans include ADA playground equipment and an accessible pathway that
spawns from the farmhouse pathway. Public Works is helping with the planning.
2. Big Chimneys Park is also in desperate need of being reengineered. The
neighbors of the park would like to attend the next December 2nd board meeting.
3. Motion: Mr. O’Hara motioned to place a resolution that all master park plan
language having to do with neighborhood and community parks and designations
are removed. Mrs. Lafave seconded the motion. Under unanimous vote, the
motion passed.

regarding adding a bathroom.
