Tree Commission Meeting Wednesday, June 18, 2014 v 7:30 - 9:30 pm Art Room, Community Center Present: Larry Dorr, Bob Donaldson, Kathleen Philpott Costa, Mike Collins, and Dennis Szymanski Guest: None Absent: David Chojnacky, Karen Oliver, Lindy Hockenberry 1. Call to order. The meeting was called to order at 8:00pm. 2. Public Comments: None 3. New Business - Development Projects - 6935 26th St. Previously four parcels. Arlington would not allow development on one. The owner will demolish the existing house and build two homes creating a pipe stem lot. While trees will be removed, the Tree Commission has no issues. - Election of Officers. Bob Donaldson made a motion to have the existing slate of officers continue in their respective positions. Kathy Philpott seconded and the vote was unanimous. - New City of Falls Church Website. The process for fulfilling simple requests for additions and corrections will be to email Kate Sutalo and she will coordinate with the webmaster. The Tree Commissioners agreed to come to the next meeting with suggestions for adding content. 4. Old Business. - Tree Commission Procedures. Kathleen Philpott Costa provided draft updated procedures and a Calendar which the Tree Commissioners adopted with minor corrections. Larry Dorr made a motion to accept the updated procedures with minor corrections, and calendar and Bob Donaldson seconded. The vote to accept was unanimous. After discussion, the Tree Commissioners decided not to pursue the project at this time pending a review of Specimen Tree nominating and tracking policies and procedures. Kate Sutalo will research the arborist's files for the last version of a Specimen Tree nomination form for discussion at the next meeting. - Volunteer to mentor student representative. Once a GMHS student representative is selected, Kathy Philpott Costa will serve as Tree Commission Mentor. - Tree protection at Taco Bell. Larry Dorr pointed out there is no protection for Street Trees at the Taco Bell construction site. Kate Sutalo will review the site plan for action as necessary. 5. Set Next Meeting: July 16th 6. Approval of Minutes: April and May minutes were approved. 7. Adjourned at 9:30 These minutes are respectively submitted by Dennis Szymanski, Tree Commission Secretary.
