Tree Commission Meeting Minutes Wednesday, January 13, 2016 v 7:30 - 9:30 pm Oak Room, City Hall Present: Kathy Philpott Costa, Dennis Szymanski, Kate Reich, Barbara Tesner, John Tesner, Christian Autor Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. 1. Approval of December Minutes: The minutes for the December 16, 2016 meeting were approved. 2. Public Comments: None 3. Old Business: None 4. Current Business  Selection of 2016 Tree of the Year: The Tree Commission chose the Red Buckeye as the 2016 Tree of the Year. The City Arborist will seek a source of small saplings for possible distribution to interested members of the public.  Streetscape Design Standards: The Tree Commission reviewed a draft of a document specifying planting standards for healthy street trees along Broad Street and Washington Street. Revisions discussed will be incorporated in a new draft and the City Arborist will propose technical specifications for planting beds’ construction, soil, and irrigation.  Tree Commission annual report: The report is due in February. The Tree Commission reviewed and approved the final draft. The report will be sent to City Council. 5. Plan Reviews: Koons Ford is redoing some of the streetscape along Broad Street Mason Row has been approved, and the Mixed Use Regulations require 15% landscaping, which the Arborist will discuss how to maximize green space during the Site Plan stage, when interior landscaping will be determined. 6.
