Tree Commission Meeting Minutes Wednesday, April 19, 2017 7:30 - 9:30 pm Oak Room. City Hall Present: Dennis Szymanski, John Tesner, Barbara Tesner, Karen Jones, Christian Autor, Kate Reich, Dan Sze Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm. 1. Approval of March Minutes: The minutes from the meeting on March 21, 2017 were approved. 2. Public Comments: Jon Ward, a member of the Environmental Sustainability Council, briefed on the 2017 Solarize program and upcoming event on Sunday, April 23rd. 3. Old Business: None 4. Staff Updates  Arbor Day, Tree of the Year – Ceremonies will commence at 11:30am on Saturday, April 22nd near the Scout House on So. South St. Kate has an Appalachian Mist Dogwood (Tree of the Year) for planting. 5. Current Business  City-VPIS Tree Labeling project –Kate has made initial contact with a Boy Scout Eagle candidate but has not received a follow up response. Kate to follow up.  Potential for Mixed-Use Voluntary Concession re: trees/green space - For the Insight project, the TC will request a cash payment into the urban forestry (or tree canopy) fund as a one-time voluntary concession (VC) to make up for the trees that will be lost to development on the site. At this point, we are dealing only with the Insight project, but will also discuss with the ESC the possibility of adding a new standard VC to address lost canopy. 6. Plan Reviews - None The City of Falls Church is committed to the letter and spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Informational Items:  Pocket Parks - Karen has offered to research potential for space to create one or more pocket parks in commercial areas of Falls Church.
