Urban Forestry Commission Meeting Minutes Wednesday, April 19, 2023 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. Meeting Location: 300 Park Ave, Oak Room and Virtual Attendees UFC members: Amy Crumpton (Chair), Jennifer Anderson, Alison Miller (Secretary) City Council Liaison: Letti Hardy UFC Student Representative:l City Staff Liaison: Charles Prince (Arborist) Members of the Public: Charlie Lord Other guests: Joseph Schiarizzi, Chair Environmental Sustainability Council 1) Call to Order - the meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m. by Amy Crumpton. 2) Roll Call 3) Approval of the March Minutes. March UFC Meeting Minutes were approved by voice vote. 4) Public Comments. a) Mr. Lord – Park Ave. Great Streets and Trees 5) Staff updates and Informational Items: a) City Council Calendar b) Staff Updates: i. Hiring ii. Crossman Park Removal Action Item: Charles is going to send Alison the notice to send to Broadmont Listserve iii. Park Ave. 60% Plans c) Tree City USA Recognition - 45 years!!! Way to go!  d) Arbor Day Event Action Item: Please attend 4/22 Arbor Day event at Madison Park! e) Budget for Arborist/Urban Forestry Crew FY24 i. see pages 169-171; GF-106 - GF-108 Action Item: We are going to send a letter highlighting inaccuracies and incompleteness. f) Neighborhood Tree Program On hiatus due to staffing requirements. g) Virginia HB 2282 This bill did not pass, but would have impacted green space and stormwater management on new development. f) UFC Meeting Schedule 6) Current Business a) Proposed New UFC Policies [ADD LINKS TO ADOPTED POLICIES] i. Policy for Remote Participation Adopted by voice vote ii. Policy for All-Virtual Participation in Public Meetings Adopted by voice vote a) Greenspace and Tree Canopy Coverage Requirements. No discussion. b) Native Alternatives to Invasive Plants Action Item: Jennifer will make this consumable for the general public so we can link on the Urban Forestry page. Charles will share a template. 7) Future Business a. Green Infrastructure Standards b. Urban Forestry Management Plan c.
