MAYOR’S CIVILITY FIRST SPEAKER SERIES
Lynn Love went through his visual aid to show the Commissioner’s his understanding of the Speaker Series
that the Mayor is proposing. Shana Reeves addressed the Commission and concurred with Lynn regarding his
understanding and explained the proposal in more depth. For the FY19 year, it would begin in January
because of the time needed to secure speakers and advertising. In the following years, we could plan an event
every quarter. The Commission has a budget of $19,000. The Mayor would kick in approximately $3,500 in
additional funds. $8,000 would be set aside for the Commission to use for recurring/standard costs and the
rest would be dedicated to the Civility First Speaker series.
DOWNTOWN CENTER FOLLOW UP
Lynn Love checked out the area set aside for the CRC at the Downtown Center and gave the Commission’s an
update regarding the usage of it.
ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF NEIGHBORING CITIES
Lynn Love stated that he has already made contact with Kirtland regarding holding a conference regarding the
Civility First Program. Shana suggested that since this area has so many conferences already being held on a
regular basis, that we could piggyback on one. One conference she suggested getting involved with is the Four
Corners Conference of Professional Development for next year as a speaker or holding a workshop. Cheri
Floyd stated that she would contact Nancy Shepard to see what they could do for this year’s conference.
OLD COMMISSION BUSINESS
Joanna explain the Grant program for the new Commissions. A short discussion was made whether we
wanted to continue this program or get rid of it.
The Commission had a short discussion on what to do for general advertising. Lynn suggested a
billboard and magnets. It was concluded that the Commission needs to work on setting up a budget
before any major advertising was decided on. Shana discussed the different marketing aspects that we
have at our disposal to use.

Diana Kinney reminded the Commissioners of speaking with the Redcoats at the Downtown Center
from 12 to 1 on August 13, 2018.
