COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISION Meeting Minutes NOVEMBER 5, 2018 City Hall Members Present: Lynn Love, Cheri Floyd, Diana Kinney, Pat Gross and Sherrie Chenault Members Absent: Larry Moore Staff Present: Julie Baird, Ass’t City Manager and Joanna Oliver, Secretary Guest Present: Anita Rowe and Steven Clarke CALL TO ORDER Chairman Lynn Love called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm without a quorum of members present and stated that Item 3 and 4 would be switched. Sherrie Chenault arrived at 4:25 p.m. to form a quorum so the following procedures were duly had and taken. VETERAN’S STAND DOWN FOLLOW UP Anita Rowe presented to the Commission the results from the Veteran’s Stand Down. They had 138 homeless come through the event with 55 of them being Veteran’s. The sponsorship that the Community Relations Commission provided in the amount of $800 paid for the food. Anita stated that overall the event was very successful but some adjustments needed to be made to get more accurate data on the individuals attending the event. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Diana Kinney made a motion to approve the September 10, 2018 minutes. Sherrie Chenault seconded. Motion carried. Pat Gross made a motion to approve the October 1, 2018 minutes. Cheri Floyd seconded. Motion carried. SPONSORSHIP APPLICATIONS Commissioners discussed the Sponsorship Applications that were tabled from last meeting from Steven Clarke and Pamela Drake. Mr. Clarke was present at the meeting and answered some further questions from the Commission. After a lengthy discussion regarding both applications, Diana Kinney made a motion to approve $800 for the MLK Day of Service – Steven Clarke. Cheri Floyd seconded. Motion carried. Pat Gross then made a motion to approve $1,500 for the Cultural Harmony Conference – Pamela Drake. Cheri Floyd seconded. Motion passed. NEW COMMISSION BUSINESS  Chairman Lynn Love stated that he has been in contact with Durango CRC and they will be starting their own Civility First Durango Program. It will be going to their City Council on this day, Monday, November 5, 2018.  Sherrie Chenault stated that there is a magazine that comes out periodically that the CRC should see about getting an article put in. Chairman Lynn Love asked that she bring a copy of that magazine to the next meeting, so the Commissioners could look at it. Sherrie also volunteered to draft an article for the CRC. OLD COMMISSION BUSINESS  Joanna gave the Commissions all a copy of the Sponsorship Application that Harelda Anderson had drafted before her resignation. She asked that the Commissioners review for changes, deletions and/or additions. It will be put on the December Agenda to hopefully finalize.
