COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISION Meeting Minutes DECEMBER 10, 2018 City Hall Members Present: Lynn Love, Cheri Floyd, Diana Kinney, Pat Gross, Larry Moore and Sherrie Chenault Members Absent: Staff Present: Julie Baird, Ass’t City Manager and Joanna Oliver, Secretary Guest Present: Chief Steve Hebbe and Georgette Allen CALL TO ORDER Chairman Lynn Love called the meeting to order at 4:04 pm with a quorum of members present so the following procedures were duly had and taken. Commissioner Sherrie Chenault arrived at 4:15 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Diana Kinney made a motion to approve the November 5, 2018 minutes. Pat Gross seconded. Motion carried. POLICE/COMMUNITY RELATIONS Chairman Lynn Love invited Chief Hebbe up to have a discussion regarding the relationship between the Farmington Police Department (FPD) and the Community. Lynn started off by commending the FPD and the officers on the good job they do for the Community. He asked Chief Hebbe to give the Commission an idea of what the Police have been doing throughout the City. Chief Hebbe stated that FPD have been working very close with various groups and outreach programs to make the Department more accessible to the Community and to see their uniform as more than just enforcers. He stated that they are various groups of people that live here that feel they cannot go to them and FPD wants them to reach out for help. He has asked the officers slow down and focus on the individuals on each call. Chief Hebbe thinks overwhelming that most people get along very well. There is an older element that want things to stay the same. He stated that the CRC could help sponsor an event with the Police. A small, very controlled open forum for the Community to talk about various issues. CIVILITY FIRST SPEAKER SERIES Julie Baird addressed the Commission regarding the Mayor’s Speaker Series. She stated that she has reached out to Karen McPheeters to help spearhead these events along with the Commission. There was a short discussion regarding ideas of what we are looking for and how to structure these Speaker Series. NEW COMMISSION BUSINESS OLD COMMISSION BUSINESS The Commission had a lengthy discussion with Julie Baird regarding the Sponsorship Application and the role of the Community Relations Commission within the City of Farmington.
