COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISION Meeting Minutes SEPTEMBER 9, 2019 City Hall Members Present: Larry Moore, Lynn Love, Diana Kinney, Pat Gross and Sherrie Chenault Members Absent: Cheri Floyd Staff Present: Julie Baird, Ass’t City Manager, Georgette Allen, Public Affairs Administrator and Joanna Oliver, Secretary Guest Present: Nicole Brown, PD Public Information Officer CALL TO ORDER Chairman Larry Moore called the meeting to order at 4:03 p.m. with a quorum of members present the following procedures were duly had and taken. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Pat Gross made a motion to approve the June 3, 2019 minutes. Lynn Love seconded. Motion passed. NEW BUSINESS Sherrie Chenault stated that she had a discussion with some youths from the UmattR program – the youth want to be more actively involved in the Community. It was suggested we might want to partner with them in regards to upcoming forums. Commissioners asked that we have them come present to us first and tell us about the program. Joanna will arrange for them to speak at the October meeting. CIVILITY FIRST LOGO Pat Gross received quotes from 3 different graphic designers. It was decided to go with Taylor Bennett- Begaye. Pat will continue to work with her and provide logo’s for the Commissioner’s to vote on through the email process. BUDGET The Commissioner had a discussion regarding the budget for the upcoming year. Budget was as follows: Promotions - $500; Sponsorship - $5,000; Marketing - $5,000; Copy/Duplicating - $300; Office Supplies - $300; Community Forums - $2,000 and Misc. - $1,900. Chairman Larry Moore asked for a motion to accept said budget. Sherrie Chenault made a motion to approve, Pat Gross seconded. TRANSCENDING (Mental Health Crisis) FORUM UPDATE Nicole Brown gave an update on the forum to be held September 14th in partnership with the Police Department. The panel will be Officer Decker, FPD; Gretchen Potter, SJ Detention Center; Kristine Carlson, TBHA; Richard Champany, Community Member; and Larry Moore, Community Relations Commission. Scott Michlin will be emceeing this event and it will be in the same format as the previous forum. The panel discussion will be from 1:00 to 3:00. Those that attend will hopefully leave with increased awareness of the issues that face the FPD when dealing with citizens that are experiencing a mental health crisis and what resources are available to these officers. COMMISSION BUSINESS  Joanna Oliver reminded the Commissioners of the booth for the Four Corners Conference on October 10th. Cheri Floyd, Pat Gross, Lynn Love and Diana Kinney will man the booth from 8:00 to 4:00 p.m.  Mayor’s Initiative Review tabled to October meeting.
