COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISION
Meeting Minutes
DECEMBER 6, 2021

Members Present: Jose Villarreal, Cheri Floyd, Sherrie Chenault, Dale Leedy, and Hema Deegala
Members Absent: Larry Moore and Deb Dumont

CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Jose Villarreal called the meeting to order at 4:07 p.m., with a quorum of members present the
following procedures were duly had and taken. Dale Leedy and Hema Deegala via virtual option.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Cheri Floyd made a motion to approve the November 1, 2021 minutes. Motion was seconded by Hema
Deegala. All in favor. Motion passed.
CIVILITY FIRST/CHAP HISTORY
Chairman Villarreal gave the Commissioners the history and start of the Civility First Program by Melissa
Meechan. It was modeled after the Aloha Program in Hawaii. It was suggested to look at the Aloha Program as
well as the program in Durango to see how they are doing now. Julie Baird went over the history of the
Comprehensive Homeless Assistance Providers (CHAP) meeting that had its beginnings with Commission Leigh
Irvin of the CRC and the status today.
ALL ABILITIES PARK/CIVILITY FIRST
Chairman Villarreal is on the Council for the Masterplan of the PRCA. He stated that he was asked by the
council to give a presentation at their January meeting in regards to incorporating the Civility First program
alongside the new All Abilities Park. He will learn more about the plan and bring back to the January meeting.
OLD COMMISSION BUSINESS
Christmas Parade – The Commissioners, who participated in the parade, stated that it was a success
and they actually ran out of bracelets by the 2nd block. There was a great community turn out. Hema
suggested that they hand out the bracelets and brochures with the downtown businesses over the
next year – once a month or so.
Community Participation – There was a lengthy discussion in regards to various ways to get out in the
Community
1. Collaboration with the Red Coats and be present when they do the ribbon cutting for new
businesses. The Commissioners could give them the CFF stickers for the windows as well as
bracelets to give out free to customers. Jose will contact Jamie with the Chamber and run the idea
by her.
2. Go into the schools and engage with the youth. Jose stated that the High School as a weekly
meeting which engages various guest speakers on various subjects. He believes that it would be a
great opportunity for the Commissioners to go in as a group and speak about CFF.
3. Sherrie Chenault suggested having Cloe Galloway come in as a speaker. She wrote the Soulful Child
and lives in Santa Fe.
4. Cheri Floyd suggested that the Commissioners get together for discussion on who to bring in as a
speaker. Bring the plan and budgeting to the January meeting.
NEW COMMISSION BUSINESS
Commissioners -
Sherrie Chenault asked that we bring back to the agenda the Commissioners reports of their activity
and engagement outside the Community.
Cheri Floyd suggested that the Commissioners could, on a monthly basis, pick a non-profit where they
could volunteer as a group or a few Commissioners at a time.
Sherrie Chenault – Education on what resources are available in our Community for those that need
help. Jose stated that we would table this discussion for the January Meeting.
