COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISION Meeting Minutes JULY 6, 2023 Executive Conference Room City Hall Members Present: Cheri Floyd, Dale Leedy, Deb Dumont, Ron Price, Joseph Martinez, Brandon John Members Absent: Hema Deegala and Audra Winters Staff Present: Julie Baird - Deputy City Manager, Shana Reeves - Assistant City Manager and Joanna Oliver-Secretary Guests Present: Barbara Morgan, Rose Fasthorse, Nate Duckett-Mayor, Anita Vigil – Deputy City Clerk, Debra Mayeux-Tri-City Record, Chief Deputy Baric Crum-FPD CALL TO ORDER Chair Cheri Floyd called the meeting to order at 4:01 p.m.; with a quorum of members present, the following procedures were duly had and taken. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Dale Leedy made motion to approve the June 5, 2023 minutes. Deb Dumont seconded the motion. All in favor. Motion passed. MAYOR APPRECIATION – Mayor Nate Duckett Mayor Duckett address the Commission to thank them for their service in helping local citizens to be engaged with the City of Farmington and their participation in the Civility First movement. He gave each commissioner an appreciation coin. Shana Reeves updated the Mayor on the Commission activities. Mayor Duckett would like to do another Mayor’s roundtable with the Commission in the near future. OPEN MEETINGS ACT REFRESHER – Anita Vigil Deputy City Clerk Anita Vigil gave the history of the Open Meetings Act aka The Sunshine Law. She went over the do’s and don’ts of this law in regards to the Community Relations Commission. BARBARA MORGAN COMPLAINT Barbara Morgan addressed the Commission in regards to her complaint against the Habitat for Humanity store. Her main complaints were no pricing, extremely rude store employees, police officer called to the store did not make eye contact with her and the Police Department needs further cultural training. Deputy Chief Baric Crum addressed the police involvement on this complaint. Chair Floyd thanked her for coming and the Commission would look further into her complaint. STAFF UPDATES - Shana Reeves gave an update on the following:  Broadening Horizons – Dale Leedy made a motion to table this until the August meeting. Brandon John seconded the motion. All in favor. Motion passed.  CRC Marketing – Gina Intoppa will be looking for ways to add CRC into events. Shana will look into getting business cards for everyone.  Marketing materials, – Short discussion regarding items to give away – pens with stylus, chap-sticks, and playing cards.  Strategic Focus/Work Projects – Reviewed updated sheets. Commissioners were asked to email the business or individuals to Chair Floyd and she will compile the list. COMMISSION BUSINESS – Chair – none Commissioners – Commissioners Leedy, John and Price met with the superintendent, Nathan with the school district. He stated that the upcoming projects are already committed and set however; they are open to look for opportunities in the future. He also stated that it is up to the principal at each school and would need to discuss with them.
