COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISION Meeting Minutes JANUARY 4, 2024 Executive Conference Room City Hall Members Present: Cheri Floyd, Dale Leedy, Hema Deegala (phone), Deb Dumont, Ron Price, and Joseph Martinez Members Absent: Brandon John and Audra Winters Staff Present: Shaña Reeves – Assistant City Manager; Chief Steve Hebbe - FPD; Joanna Oliver- Secretary Guests Present: Alyssa Begay CALL TO ORDER Chair Cheri Floyd called the meeting to order at 4:01p.m.; with a quorum of members present, the following procedures were duly had and taken. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Dale Leedy made motion to approve the December 7, 2023 minutes. Joseph Martinez seconded the motion. All in favor. Motion passed. NOMINEE DRAFT LETTER Dale Leedy gave a draft letter to the Commission in regards to notifying the recipients of this recognition. After a short discussion, Shaña Reeves, in coordination with the CRC Chair, will make some changes in wording and add the details on filming. Shaña will begin the process of using the letter to notify recipients once the schedule is worked out with Greg Allen. Ron Price made a motion to accept letter with noted process, Hema Deegala seconded this motion. All in favor. Motion passed. CALENDAR OF EVENTS Deb Dumont suggested that the CRC spend more time in giving quality forums with the Police Departments instead of attending a lot of little events. Shaña Reeves suggested that the CRC consider committing to the National Night Out in October and the Police’s Non-Profit forum in April, working with the Civic Center during the summer to promote the production, and working behind the scenes to develop a formal and ongoing award program for the Civility First Farmington initiatives. Dale Leedy made a motion to commit to the National Night Out in October, the Non-Profit Forum in April, the Civic Center summer productions, as well as the awards/recognition program for 2024. Joseph Martinez seconded this motion. All in favor. Motion passed. STAFF UPDATES • Chief Steve Hebbe addressed the Commission in regards to the planning of the 2024 forums. There was a short discussion for ideas of forum topics and format of forums. The Police department has a forum tentatively scheduled for April for another non-profit agency summit. He would like the CRC to partner with them and help it the word to the smaller organizations. • Shaña Reeves stated that the City would be having a monthly newsletter starting up in January. This newsletter will be going out to the community and they will be able to subscribe under the website. First release will be next week. There was a short discussion regarding other platforms to get news out. • Shaña Reeves informed the Commission that Kay Rose will be taking over as Secretary for the Community Relations Commission starting in February.
