MINUTES Tuesday, June 18, 2013 4:00pm at the Farmington Public Library Staff Conference Room FARMINGTON PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD Members present: Mary Keller, Maryann Thompson, Paula Nickerson, Judy Castleberry, Dale Anderson, Dick Gerding Staff present: Jenny Lee Ryan, Karen McPheeters I. Call to Order Judy Castleberry, President II. Amendments to and/or approval of the minutes of the previous meeting a. Motion to approve minutes made by Paula i. Seconded by Mary ii. Approved by board III. Old Business a. Review of statistics and monthly report to the City Manager i. Statistics are following budget trends IV. New Business a. Open Meetings Resolution i. Motion to approve made by Dick ii. Seconded by Dale and MaryAnn iii. Approved by board b. Director's Report 1. Budget FY20 14 - final result A. Library budget reduced about $200,000 overall B. Shiprock hours to be reduced to 4 hours a day, starting after the Labor Day weekend closure a. 20 hours per week until March b. Monday- Friday- 2pm to 6pm C. Farmington hours to be reduced by 5 hours per week, starting after the Labor Day weekend closure a. Winter Hours - Monday-Thursday- 9am to 8pm b. Saturday mornings - 1Oam to 5pm D. Staffing a. 2 full time staff members to be replaced i. Losing two librarians,  1. In addition to 6 full time positions that have been vacant for several years 11. Will be advertising nationally to recruit librarians 11. Strategic planning to take place in next year 111. Budget FY 2013 A. This year's budget 100%-93% B. One more payroll IV. Summer Reading A. Registration a. Teen- 362 b. Youth- 4,394 c. Adult- 418 d. Shiprock- 327 B. Slightly lower than last year C. Governor is promoting a separate summer reading program with Dept. of Tourism and Dept. of Education a. Farmington Public Library received 25 brochures to distribute in San Juan County v. Homeschool groups A. Board member Dick Gerding assisted in resolution B. Homeschool event- 106 attended a. Positive outcome from those who attended v1. Board members expressed appreciation for library director and staff c. Other business for discussion 1. Election of Chair and Vice Chair will take place during next meeting V.
