Item 1: Meeting commenced at 10:00 AM. Announcements/Notices/Events: Mass Rehab – Community Access Monitor Training – 05/23/2017 & 05/24/2017 – Please notify by 05/15/2017 New England Amputee Association-04/30/2017 -walk-a-thon from 12:00 – 3:00 PM. Save the Date: Fitchburg Community Development Department has sent a Save the Date notification for their Community Resource Fair – Thursday- September 14, 2017 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Fitchburg Armory (Senior Center) located at 14 Wallace Ave, Fitchburg, MA. Item 2: Disability Awareness Event/ Education-Subcommittee: The commission will meet on 04/24/2017 at 11:00 AM to finalize planning for the awareness event being held on April 25th. Members plan to be at the event as early as 2:00 PM for organizing the event. Item 3: Curb Cuts – Elm Street & Courthouse well defined crosswalks. Roof for senior center entrance. Motion to support consent of grant projects for senior center- unanimous letter of support Item 4: Housing /Wallace Towers: Work began on Wallace towers, problem with concrete stairs at Green Acres Item 5: Accessible Playgrounds and Equipment: None to Report Item 6: Issues of Compliance in Downtown Fitchburg: None to Report. Item 7: Old Business: Workers Credit Union- Jeff called and had no response regarding discussion on safe deposit box privacy Pauline Basque’s complaint on Singapore Restaurant’s bathroom not being handicapped accessible- was recommended to contact the chamber of Commerce, which oversees the private sector. Status Update Item 8: New Business: Doris expressed concern about manual wheelchairs having difficulties on sloped bridge near Santander Bank. Nick suggested brake system for wheel chairs. Low railings on bridge can help. Motion to adjourn the meeting made by Maryann Guichard and 2nd by Carolyn Quirk. The next meeting of the Commission is scheduled for May 10th 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Location – The Garden Room – Fitchburg Public Library.
