Old Business: Approval of the Minutes from 11-14-2023 Meeting: After a review of the minutes by the council, Mr. Perry made a motion for approval, Ms. Kelly seconded and the council approved the minutes unanimously. Attendance Policy (feedback from subcommittee meeting on 12-13-2023): The School Committee’s policy of nondiscrimination extends to students, employees, and the general public with whom it does business. Dr. Braga presented the Attendance Policy with revisions required by the School Committee Subcommittee which included class cut protocols. This Policy will be presented to the next meeting of the School Committee for approval in January. Discussion around Grading (review the council’s gathered research): Perry presented his summary of grading protocols with statements of advantages and disadvantages of various grading protocols. Discussion ensued with a genesis of the following: 1) What is the real minimum grade that should be offered. 2) Should there be some way to measure a student’s merit for the offering of a 50? 3) Should students have to apply for the 50 rather than it be automatically granted? Should we create a grading policy committee to create a more definitive protocol? 4) Student members of the council state that they like the 50 as it offers opportunity for redemption and shows compassion. 5) What are the teachers' views of the 50 grading policy? Dr. Braga will present the 50 grading policy issue to the ILT to seek out feedback from faculty via the PLCs. New/Future Business: Agenda items for next meeting: ● Review of the attendance policy if approved by the next School Committee Meeting. ● Budget Template and budget proposal discussions. ● Feedback from the ILT & faculty regarding the 50% grading policy.
