After discussion and review, "Bold Next Steps" were produced. Dr. Braga will present these "Next Steps" and ideas to the ILT. Bold Next Steps the Protocol (F=50%): • If a student fails a class a buyback procedure where a student can improve their grade by attending an afterschool program rather than receiving the grade they earned. • Provide an incomplete instead of a 50. • We need to do a data review to determine what the source of the 50s is, is it performance or lack of attendance? • If the student receives an F they should be mandatory outreach and meeting with parents and staff. • Should students with a 92% or higher attendance be failing a class? • If the 50% policy remains students should need to apply in order to get a 50. • Perhaps we need to have further discussion about moving grading into departmental policies and perhaps move towards some type of alternative assessment, which is standard-based • Related to the previous issue is that perhaps teachers need to become better aware of students learning style needs and time needs while choosing assessment methods • A discussion needs to be had about the role of homework and grading what percentage of the grade can homework be counted toward. Agenda items for next meeting: Update on FHS Budget proposal Continue the discussion surrounding the 50% grading policy Next Meeting: May 28th @ 2:30 pm Adjournment: Mr. Demosthenes made a motion to adjourn and Mr. Garcia seconded the motion, unanimous vote reached at 3:24 pm Notes Approved by School Council on: 05-28-2024
