City of Fitchburg’s Legislative Conference Building
In attendance were: Commissioner’s M.Ashraf, J. Darcangelo, C.Maguy-Stewart, B. Nealon, M.Pridgen,
D.Roth
Excused: H. Asfa, K.Ford-Rhodes, G.Rodriguez
Absent: Commissioners: M. Knight,
Guests: Mayor-Elect S.Squallia

• Meeting called to order at 5:31pm
• Welcoming and Introductions
• Review of previous meeting minutes for 9/25/23 reviewed acceptance of minutes as written.
• Public Comment Period-Opportunity for the public to speak during a Commission Meeting
Chairperson or designee will ask if anyone in the audience wishes to speak on any matter appearing on
the agenda. If you wish to address the commission, raise your hand, when recognized, you must stand
state your name and address and the reason for your speaking: None
• New Business- Welcoming George Rodriguez as our newest Commissioner, excused absence for
tonight’s meeting.
• Welcome Mayor-Elect and guests to the Human Rights Commission. The Chair provided and
overview of the Commission, some topics that have come before us and privately from the
community residents.
• Old Business-
Membership update- Barriers noted some members do not attend meetings regularly and we
have stressed in the past 3 unexcused absences will result in the removal from the Commission.
Chairperson agreed to provide the Mayor-Elect with an attendance record of all Commissioners
to begin the new year and emphasis on having people considered representative of the
community including.
Commissioner Maguy-Stewart attended the October Community Resource Fair representing the
Human Rights Commission and Commissioner Nealon attended the Real estate appraisal
program focusing on racial bias on behalf of the Commission.
No November meeting was held as the Clerks Office did not post the Meeting Agenda and
Minutes timely. Although was sent to the Clerks office 2 weeks in advance of the holiday week.
Other items-future meeting topics , outreach & educational efforts etc Commissioner Roth
invited all to join the community holiday dinner at Parkhill Pizza several seatings are available;
co-sponsored by Warmer Winters and several members of the Human Rights Commission
participate annually ie.. Commissioners Roth and Maguy-Stewart.
Next meeting scheduled for January 22, 2024 at 5:30pm in the Legislative Conference Building
