CITY OF FOUNTAIN VALLEY ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR THE DISABLED MINUTES May 2, 2013 CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Gael Traer called the Regular Meeting of the Advisory Committee for the Disabled to order at 6:30pm. ROLL CALL Members Present: Terry Coakley, Lawrence Judson, Philip Nisco, Gary Osterbach, Susanne Seiden, Gael Traer, and Jan Werts Others Present: Guests; Debbie Paul, Robert Pegg, Allie Trounce and Adam Trounce. Also present; Councilmember John Collins and city liaison, Nora Webb. Members Absent: Judith Drude, John Ellison, and Anna Nagmay. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Committee Member Lawrence Judson moved to approve the minutes of the March 7, 2013 meeting, second by Jan Werts. Motion carried 7-0 in favor of approving the minutes. NEW BUSINESS 1. Temo Galvez, Deputy City Engineer Councilman John Collins invited Temo Galvez, Deputy City Engineer to the meeting. Mr. Galvez explained his duties; some of which include engineering for traffic signal timing, public improvements for park equipment and landscape. Lawrence Judson asked that Mr. Galvez look into a left turn arrow added to the signal at Ellis and Bushard. Mr. Galvez said that he would look into that intersection, and he mentioned that signal timing and crosswalks are determined based on demand of the intersection. ONGOING BUSINESS 1. Report from Subcommittee on Recreation Programs: Committee Member Jan Werts reported on the dance that took place on April 5, 2013. There were 104 paid attendees. Jan thanked all who worked that night including a new volunteer named Leeann. Jan discussed the challenge of ACCESS vans not picking up their clients on time. Volunteers were at the dance until 10:00pm because of the drivers coming late for pickups. Jan Werts and Gael Traer worked with Nora Webb to create new sign-in lists so that we have the correct information including phone numbers and ACCESS numbers so calls can be made to the facilities if this happens again. Gary Osterbach made a suggestion to have a form for those who do not come in with a facility/group- home. The new forms will also assist the volunteers and staff in case of an emergency. The next dance will take place on Friday, June 7, 2013. Public Comments Debbie Paul shared an Emergency Survival Guide that was in Braille. Committee Comments N/A Adjournment With no further business before the Advisory Committee for the Disabled, Chairman Gael Traer adjourned the meeting at 7:25pm.
