Schwartz ksschwartz@fredericksburgva.gov cc: Planning@fredericksburgva.gov The Historic Fredericksburg Foundation has reviewed the upcoming agenda and related COA documents for the January 13, 2025 meeting of the Architectural Review Board and submits the following comments on select projects. Public Hearing: 11.A.i COA 2412-0087—1314 Sophia Street HFFI continues to appreciate this sensitively designed, two-story addition for the historic house at 1314 Sophia Street. Revisions depicted in the submitted materials include a simplified gabled roofline where the new addition connects to the historic resource and a change in roofing materials—both of which are contextually appropriate design solutions at the property. We are also pleased to see gutters and downspouts depicted in the submitted drawings, as they visually convey the need for the proposed tweaks to the addition’s fenestration. Thus, HFFI concurs with staff’s recommendation for approving this COA and, once again, we thank the applicant for the sensitivity of this design.
