Organization of the New Board: Rob Roberson motioned and Chair Rodriguez seconded and the vote was unanimous to organize the Board as follows: Chair: Rene Rodriguez Vice-Chair: Rob Roberson Secretary: Cathie Fisher Braman Changes to the Minutes: On Page 3 change: “New Board member, Rob Roberson, agreed to work on an assessment of current polling sites regarding campaigning guidelines” to “New Board member, Rob Roberson, agreed to work on an assessment of the current polling sites regarding campaigning guidelines. Motion to accept changes was made by Vice Chair Roberson, seconded by Chair Rodriguez. Motion passed unanimously. Director’s Report 1. Three voters have voted so far. Absentee Voting having started on Friday, March 16th. 2. L & A testing was done on March 14th with Chair Rodriguez, Secretary Braman, Council Member Billy Withers, Technician Mo Amin and Director Hoffman present. 3. The City website has been updated and every week there will be a posting. 4. The Commissioner of Elections has called for a dual primary on June 12, 2018. Page 2. The Order calls for a Democratic and Republican primary to be held for the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives. The Code of Virginia allows a voter to vote in only one election (24.2-530). Therefore, voters will need to be asked, “In which primary do you wish to vote?” by the Officers of Election in the June primary. 5. In May the sorority Delta Sigma Theta will be holding a meeting regarding the Elections and Director Hoffman will be a speaker. 6. The representative from PrintElect, Tyler L., will be in to check the AutoMark to see if it needs to be fixed. The reason for this visit is a problem that arose with this particular machine during L & A testing. Chair Rodriguez motioned to accept the Director’s Report, Vice-Chair Roberson seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Election Issues As of today there is no Assistant Chief in Precinct 401. Discussion regarding moving Officers from one precinct to another took a significant amount of time. It was decided to move the Beckett’s from Precinct 301 to Precinct 401, and to move Ms. Della Jo Piarulli to Precinct 301. Officers for the June 12 Election are fine. Vice Chair Roberson voted to accept Steve Rabson as an Officer of Election and Chair Rodriguez seconded. Unanimous vote. Training dates for Officers of Election are April 17, 18 and 19 from 6 pm to 9 pm. Annual Registrar/Electoral Board Training The Annual Training put on by the Department of Elections will be held in June. All new Electoral Board members are required to attend. And all Registrars are also required to attend. Polling Locations for the Future Chair Rodriguez wants to lay the groundwork for future polling locations as he proposed the safety issues of Lafayette Elementary School as a precinct. Former Vice-Chair Markel took Vice-Chair Roberson to one of the former buildings under consideration as a polling precinct. Vice-Chair Roberson feels this is not appropriate and the building as not good for Election use.
