MINUTES OF PARKS & RECREATION BOARD MEETING Tuesday, August 1, 2017 7:00 pm – Meeting Room of City Auditorium - 925 N Broad ST PRESENT: Matt Bechtel, Bob Brown, Dian Christensen Hillis, Wendy Eairleywine, Connie Giese, Kim Koski, Cari Lawrence, Dan Moran, Nate Schwanke. 1. Call to Order – Meeting convened at 7:01 pm. The agenda displayed at City Hall, 400 E Military and was distributed to the Mayor, City Council and the Park Board, on July 28, 2017 and is open to the public. The open meeting law is posted continually for public inspection. 2. Roll Call – 6 present. Prince absent. 3. Reading of the Park & Recreation Board Minutes – Motion was made by Giese, seconded by Moran to dispense with reading of the minutes and approve as presented. Motion carried. 4. Request for Use of Johnson Park trail, shelter and Splash Station parking lot on Saturday, September 9, 2017 for Keep Fremont Beautiful Eco-Trek. Motion was made by Giese, seconded by Eairleywine to approve. Motion carried. 5. Request for Use of Ruwe Park on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 by Church of Nazarene for Community Cook-Out and Color Fight. Motion was made by Christensen Hillis, seconded by Giese to approve. Motion carried. 6. Request to amend the Monument/Marker Installation and Maintenance Fee at Ridge Cemetery. Motion was made by Christensen Hillis, seconded by Eairleywine. Motion carried. 7. MainStreet Fremont Temporary Green Space Project Update – Shannon Mullen  Koski updated the Board on this project. It will take place September 1 – 21 in the parking lot located at 544 N Park. This will be a MainStreet project and their only request from the City is for the use of the stage used during Concerts in the Park. Motion was made by Giese, seconded by Christensen Hillis to approve use of the stage. Motion carried. 8. Recreation Report – Schwanke  Summer programs are winding down.  Pools last day of operation is Saturday, August 12.  Splash Station will host a Doggie Dip on Sunday, August 13 from 1-2pm. 9. Director’s Report – Koski  Work continues on the new upcoming 2-year budget. Study sessions are planned in near future along with meetings with Brian Newton and Jody Sanders.  Assistant City Administrator – City Side, had interviews last week.  National Night Out event is tonight at JCF Park from 6-8pm.  Fundraising event for Blake Escamilla family is Saturday, August 6 from 12-5pm at Miller Park.  New forestry crew member started June 19. His first day involved major storm damage clean up from the June 16 storm. With the help of the park shop, crews spent almost 2 weeks on the clean-up.  Crews finished helping the DU put up the new Welcome to Fremont banners.  Working with Bergan to prepare the Johnson Park area for their new practice site.   KFB Eco-Trek is Saturday, September 9 from 9-11am at Johnson Park trail. Registration fee is $10 and includes a t-shirt and snacks. Drawings for free trash for a year and a tree will be held as well.  I filled in for Brian Newton on his weekly radio show yesterday at noon. It went well!  Solar Farm is sold officially sold out last Friday. With the overwhelming response, the City is looking to build a 2nd farm next summer. 10. New Discussion Items – No Official Action  Who is responsible for mowing Ridge Road Trail?  Is it possible to put up distance markers on Johnson Trail? 11. Next Meeting – Tuesday, September 5, 2017 12. Adjournment – motion was made by Giese, seconded by Christensen Hillis to adjourn. Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 7:38 pm.
