MINUTES OF PARKS & RECREATION BOARD MEETING Tuesday, September 4, 2018 7:00 pm – Meeting Room of City Auditorium - 925 N Broad ST PRESENT: Dian Christensen Hillis, Wendy Eairleywine, Connie Giese, Kim Koski, Dan Moran, Ann Prince, Nate Schwanke. 1. Call to Order – Meeting convened at 7:00pm. The agenda displayed at City Hall, 400 E Military and was distributed to the Mayor, City Council and the Park Board, on August 31, 2018 and is open to the public. The open meeting law is posted continually for public inspection. 2. Roll Call – 5 present. Bechtel and Brown absent. 3. Reading of the Park & Recreation Board Minutes – Motion was made by Moran, seconded by Giese to dispense with the reading of the minutes and approve as sent. Motion carried. 4. Projects Update – See Attachment. 5. Recreation Report – See Attachment. 6. Director’s Report – See Attachment. 7. Other Business – None. 8. Next Meeting – Tuesday, October 2, 2018. 9. Adjournment – motion was made by Giese, seconded by Eairleywine to adjourn. Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 7:17 pm. Kim Koski, Director of Parks & Recreation September 25, 2018 Projects Update/Director’s Report – September, 2018 * Concrete work and irrigation installation is finished at Dillon Aquatics Center parking lot. Park shop crews will be putting down grass seed this fall. * With the installation of the irrigation at the DAC and around the Veteran’s Memorial, the fencing at the Veteran’s Memorial had to be temporarily removed. Park shop crews are currently reinstalling the fence. * Two capital projects that are currently being completed are new lights in the hog barn and some fencing at Christensen Field. * Another capital project that we hope to finish this fall is installing a new shelter at Ronin Park and a new roof for the concessions/storage building at the Christensen Field Soccer Complex. * We had bid openings last week for the engineering services for the City Auditorium project. (3) sealed bids were submitted. Staff is carefully going over information and will be making a recommendation to the City Council soon. * The sun shades for Dog Park West have been delivered and will be install by park shop staff this fall. * The Fremont Noon Kiwanis Club made a presentation to the City Council regarding their plan for the playground and sun shade at Johnson Park. The Kiwanians will continue to work on designing and fundraising for the project. * Registrations for the annual craft show start tomorrow, September 5. Show is December 1. * Fall activities for the adaptive recreation program have been scheduled. September 11 – Happy Clown Magic Show and Balloon Twist October 23 – Fall Party and Costume Contest December 11 – Holiday Dance with DJ * The Friendship Center continues to have solid numbers for attendance. Popular activities include BINGO, Chair Volleyball and Special Entertainment on Wednesday. In August, a group of seniors went to Omaha and participated in the Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging Walk-A-Thon and another outing included dinner at Bell’s Restaurant followed by the Bill Chrastil (Elvis!) at the Opera House. * The City’s (2) person tree crew continues to work on trimming/pruning, removals and tree calls. * Recreation staff is planning activities for the annual Fire Station Open House during Fire Prevention Week in October.
