BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS – REGULAR MEETING
1. Call to Order – Mayor John W. Byrne
2. Invocation & Pledge of Allegiance –FVHS Baseball Coach Zach Boraski provided the
invocation and FVHS Gymnastics Coach Stacey Amey led the Pledge of Allegiance.
3. Approval of the minutes for the August 21, 2018 Regular Town Board meeting. –
Approved (5-0)
4. Presentations:
A. Presentation - Recognition of Fuquay-Varina High School 2018 4-A State
Champions
Mayor Byrne recognized FVHS Principal Jonathan Enns. Principal Enns expressed his
gratitude for having such outstanding students and coaches at Fuquay-Varina High School.
Mayor Byrne presented one of the signs that will be placed with Town entrance signs that read:
“Home of State Champion – Fuquay-Varina High School Bengals – 2018 4-A Baseball, 2018
4-A Girls Soccer and 2018 Girls Small Team Gymnastics”. He recognized coaches who were
in attendance – Coach Stacey Amey, and Coach Zach Boraski. He also recognized Coach
Nick Acosta in his absence.
5. Public Comments – Mr. Steve White representing the Fuquay-Varina Active Adult Task Force
addressed the Town Board as it relates to a need for a dedicated Senior Adult Center in Fuquay-
Varina.
Ms. Jessica Yee, introduced herself as the new Fuquay-Varina Arts Council President, and she
thanked the Town Board for their support.

7A. Zoning Map Amendment - Gala Construction - 500 W Academy Street - REZ-2018-

The purpose of this agenda item was to continue the public hearing and table
consideration of a requested zoning map amendment for a total of 0.41 acres, located at
500 W Academy Street, from the Corridor Commercial (CC) Zoning District to the Town
Center Residential (TCR) Zoning District. – Approved 5-0
7B. Zoning Map Amendment - Gala Construction - 220 and 228 Bridge Street - REZ-
2018-09
The purpose of this agenda item was to consider a zoning map amendment totaling 0.25
acres, located at 220 and 228 Bridge Street, from the Residential Medium Density (RMD)
Zoning District to the Town Center Residential (TCR) Zoning District. – Approved 5-0

Agenda Item No. 8.A: Temporary Street Closure – The Mill Market – September 29,
2018 Closing Depot Street for The Mill Market event taking place on
September 29, 2018 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Agenda Item No. 8.B: Surety/Letter of Credit – Holland Station Townhomes Phases
1 and 2 0 Landscaping Delay of Installation - $55,814.75 To
consider a surety request for delay of landscaping improvements for
the Holland Station Townhomes Phases 1 and 2 in the amount of
$55,814.75.
Agenda Item No. 8C: Temporary Street Closure - BBQ, Blues and Brews Festival –
Fuquay-Varina Downtown Association, Inc. – September 22,
2018 To temporarily close Ransdell Road between E. Broad Street
and North Street from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm, Saturday, September
22, 2018.
Agenda Item No. 8D: Project Ordinance Amendment – Arts Center- $6,200.00 To
recognize $6,200 in interest earnings to be added to the Arts Center
project fund for the purpose of purchasing additional theatre

Project - $66,667.00
To consider approval of a Project Ordinance Amendment that
reallocates funds in the amount of $66,667 towards the

granting the right to use public right-of-way in Fuquay-Varina for the purpose of
constructing, operating and maintaining a gas utility system. (Approved 5-0)

The purpose of this agenda item was to consider a resolution authorizing an upset bid
process for sale of property owned by the Town of Fuquay-Varina to Carolina Forest

10F. Creative Crosswalks - Arts Center
The purpose of this agenda item was to consider a proposed design for creative
crosswalks at the intersection of East Vance Street and South Fuquay Avenue.

A. Manager’s Report
• Long range/short range USA was approved unanimously by Wake County Board of
Commissioners
• Fleming Loop Park construction is progressing nicely.
• Judd/Main intersection is set to close on September 17th by Norfolk Southern
Railroads for up to 30 days.
• Working to submit LAPP projects for the 2019 funding submittals
• Town’s financial audit is in progress
