Despite the cold temperatures, yesterday’s event was quite the success, with thousands of folks in attendance who enjoyed an afternoon of more than 100 activities, a heralded arrival of a jubilant Santa, and, for the first time, fireworks with the tree lighting ceremony. The event drew Gahanna residents as well as visitors from areas throughout Central Ohio. Once again, we were able to generate significant media exposure for Gahanna and the Creekside District through Holiday Lights. I do not yet have promotional and publicity value numbers for the coverage that we received. (We’ll get those numbers after all of the events are concluded.) In the meantime, below is an overview of the TV, radio and print coverage from this weekend: · Multiple segments on Good Day Columbus (WSYX6 and Fox28) on Saturday morning: <http://myfox28columbus.com/good-day-columbus/around-town-g ahanna-holiday-lights> We were able to promote multiple businesses and organizations because of the event, including the Gahanna Historical Society & Settlement, The Mug & Brush Barber Shop, Upper Cup Coffee, Nothing Bundt Cakes, GLHS Lions Locker, GLHS Orchestra program. · NBC4 on Sunday morning: Unfortunately, our multiple segments were cancelled at the last minute due to multiple alarm fire that morning. However, we were able to do one segment live before the crew had to leave. During that segment (which was live at 6:05 a.m. at Creekside Plaza), we promoted the community spirit of Holiday Lights, mentioning the work of the Gahanna Parks & Recreation Department in decorating the plaza and the work of Make Gahanna Yours in decorating the island. · Radio interview with Ken Stevens on WTVN 610 · 10 p.m. news on Fox28 and 11 p.m. news on WSYX 6 on Sunday evening: The Holiday Lights Celebration (including fireworks display) was a “teaser” lead in to both news segments AND both news programs featured an extended segment on the Holiday Lights Celebration. · Columbus Dispatch, Monday, 11/20: Featured on the front page of the Metro section of today’s Dispatch, as well as on a full page inside the section. Here is a link to the online article: City of Gahanna Page 8 City Council Meeting Minutes November 20, 2017 <http://www.dispatch.com/news/20171119/gahanna-kicks-off-sea son-with-holiday-lights-celebration> (It should be noted that every picture features a VISITOR who attended the event…) Overall, the Holiday Lights Celebration drew tremendous coverage for the City and for the Creekside District, with thousands of visitors and residents in attendance. Many thanks to those of you who were able to make it yesterday and volunteer some time. A super result of great teamwork. We are very grateful for the support and partnership that we share with the various city departments and thank them for their help. Next up for our staff is the Santa Race 5k & Little Reindeer Dash, scheduled for Sat., Dec. 2 (more than 500 runners already registered- a new high) and the Meijer Holiday Character Breakfast, scheduled for Sat., Dec. 9. Volunteer slots for the Race are full; however, we could still use some helping hands for the Breakfast on Dec. 9. We also are putting the finishing touches on the upcoming launch of our new, family-oriented Herbal Trail Adventure Pass (launching in January), starting work on a brand new project (to be unveiled in February), working on our year-end reporting numbers in anticipation of our February annual meeting, AND developing our marketing plan for the coming year. Finally, on Oct. 31 - Nov. 2, Visit Gahanna staff attended the annual Ohio Conference on Travel, which was held in Akron, OH. More than 400 professionals from the travel and tourism industry in Ohio were present for the Conference, which included workshops, keynote presentations, and the annual RUBY Awards luncheon (which are awarded to Recognize Uncommon Brilliance Yearly in tourism marketing efforts). Visit Gahanna was honored with 5 awards for our marketing efforts during the luncheon, including four First Place awards - Best Brochure (for our Weddings marketing campaign); Best Newsletter (for our “Weekly Happenings” newsletter); Best Mobile App (for our new “Visit Gahanna” app, which was launched on June 15, the day before the 19th annual Creekside Blues & Jazz Festival); and Best Print Advertisement (for our Herbal Cocktail Trail campaign); and one Second Place (Citation of Excellence) Award - for our CBJF Marketing Brochure.
