Approved Discussion: City Manager Maryann Ustick provided updates on the status of: - RR crossings at 3rd Street and 2nd Street – City is discussing with BNSF some potential improvements at the crossing - Coal Avenue Commons construction update- this project is proceeding on schedule -Alley Improvement project update –M. Ustick asked that this topic be placed on the October 15, 2020 agenda for a full update NM Small Business Recovery Loan Fund – this program is open for applications. Information can be found on City of Gallup website Coal Avenue project banner above Aztec: Gallup MainStreet Arts & Cultural District asked to use the BID poles on Aztec at the walkway to hang a banner as part of the GMSACD Coal Avenue construction mitigation program Increase in online/ e-commerce penetration: Bank of America and Forrester Research published data on the very sharp increase in online commerce since the start of the Covid-19 crisis. Online commerce is likely to remain a strong permanent component of doing business in most categories, including for businesses that have a brick & mortar location. Other Discussion: Greater Gallup Economic Development Corporation, Gallup Business improvement District, San Juan Economic Development, 4 Corners Economic Development. Cibola Communities Economic Development and NW NM Council of Governments have continued discussions about the merits of working with National Development Council to create an effective regional approach to economic development for the NWNM area. This topic will be discussed again in detail during the BID October 15 regular monthly meeting Reports: August 19 – meeting with Kevin Taira re: discussion of potential uses for location at 9th & Aztec - the former location of Aztec Theater August 21 – meeting with Mayor Bonaguidi to review programs offered by National Development Council August 25 – telephone meeting with Alicia Santiago, City of Gallup Engineering Department re: City of Gallup ICIP August 27 – City Council approved Gallup ICIP. Planning phase for downtown projects is now included on the ICIP. August 28 – telephone discussion with Jay Hinkley about BID sign grant program hiatus. September 7 – meeting with Sherman McCorkle re: economic development projects in Gallup September 11 - meeting with Vince Alonzo at Gallup Skate Park to view new sculptures, seating and awnings.
