1. Call Meeting to Order – Chairperson Alvin Roberts called meeting to order at 10:00
AM. Alvin Roberts asked Bob Balliet to take the minutes.
NOTE: A quorum was present:
2. Roll Call: – Chairman Alvin Roberts, Commissioners Bob Balliet, Marie Hall &
City Representative Eugene Palazo, City Manager, Armando Solis, Dir Parks &
Recreation & Monica Lopez, Representative, Parks & Recreation .
3. Public Comment: Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the
audience may address the Commission on any item of interest to the public or any
agenda item before or during the Commission’s consideration of the item. Speakers
shall restrict their comments to the issues that are within the subject matter jurisdiction
of the Commission and limit comments to a maximum of five (5) minutes. This
statement was read by Alvin Roberts.
4. Guest Speaker(s): None - however, 3 Representatives of City (mentioned above and
4 members of the public participated in the discussions of the commission.
5. Acceptance of Minutes – Jun 22, 2017 – Motion was made by Chairman Roberts
and seconded by Marie Hall to accept the Minutes of Jun 22, 2017. All voted in favor of
acceptance.
6. Old Business:
• Update on “Galt Resource Guide for 2018” – Bob will present draft of
Calendar to Commission on Sep 24, 2017. On recommendation of City Manager
Eugene Palazzo, a ‘Legal Advice for Seniors’ contact will be included.
• City wide survey of needs of Seniors – 2nd cut presented by Chairman Roberts
and discussed by the Commissioners. Commissioner Bob also indicated that the
survey would be in his September Column in the Herald. Consensus was in favor of
the draft Chairman Roberts submitted.
• Press Releases – Commissioner Bob noted that Column in the Galt Herald will
resume in September 2017.
• Need for a Senior Center – This matter will be discussed between Chairman
Roberts and Commissioner Bob in a meeting by Aug 7, 2017… Specifically to create
a task force consisting of different members of the Senior Community. This will be
an ongoing effort (part of the 2018 Agenda) and periodic reports on the progress
of this effort will be made to the Commission.
• Inform City about wheelchair access for several city buildings – Proposed
Letter to the Mayor & City Council was presented by Commissioner Bob to the
Commission. It was discussed, with input from Eugene Palazzo, City Manager,
Armando Solis, Dir Parks & Recreation, Monica Lopez, Rep Parks & Recreation and
members of the public. On recommendation from Eugene Palazzo, City Manager,
the Proposed Letter to the Mayor/City Council will be suspended and redirected to
Eugene Palazzo, City Manager for his action and he committed to report back to
the Commission on his action(s). Commissioner Bob made motion to so suspend
and redirect, Chairman Alvin seconded the motion and the motion carried
unanimously.
• Public Website/Face book/Newspaper – Suggestion was made by Chairman
Roberts to add the Lodi Sentinel to include a Column for Seniors (the same one
that is now in the Herald, to broaden our outreach … since many Seniors in Galt
also subscribe to that paper. Commissioner Bob agreed to contact The Sentinel
about that issue and report back to the Commission on the results. Commissioner
Bob also will contact Monica Lopez to work on using the city’s web site, face book
page and the quarterly city brochure that is mailed to all citizens, in an effort to
include news about the Commission and the issues facing our seniors. He will
report back to the Commission no later than the October meeting.
• Visit to Galt Senior Living Centers – Chairman Alvin will continue his efforts to
schedule visits by Commission members to the Galt Senior Living Centers.
7. Commission Reports/Comments: After today’s meeting, Eugene Palazzo, City
Manager, Armando Solis, Dir Parks & Recreation and Commissioner Bob will be touring
the Parks & Recreation building and the adjacent Chabolla Center to check out the
‘wheel chair access’ issue. Dir Solis & Ms Lopez also informed the Commission that the
doors to the restrooms in Parks & Recreation were equipped with automatic opening
devices, so that once you applied pressure to the door(s) they would open up
completely to allow for easy access. Kudos was offered to Parks & Recreation for their
innovation. Commissioner Bob was offered to ‘check them out’ and he did!
8. Announcements:
a. Sacramento County Adult & Aging Commission Meeting is the fourth Wednesday of

b. Galt Senior Club – 1:00 PM Chabolla Center, 1st Monday business meeting/bingo,
2nd bingo, 3rd Pot luck/bingo, 4th Birthday Cake/bingo, 5th donuts/bingo & and every
Thursday 12:45 – 2:45 Bingo.
c. Community Housing & Services Coalition Meeting – 4th Tuesday each month.
Location: 7000 65 Street (Sacramento Sheriff’s Florin Office Community Center.
9. Adjournment: Commissioner Bob made a motion to adjourn. The motion was
seconded by Marie Hall and it carried unanimously. Meeting adjourned at 10:40 AM.
