City of Galt MINUTES COMMISSION ON AGING GALT PARKS & RECREATION OFFICE CONFERENCE ROOM 610 CHABOLLA AVENUE, GALT, CA Thursday, January 25 2018 10:00am Chairperson: Alvin Roberts Commission: Bob Balliet, Marie Hall, Andrea Johnson, Pennie Niemeyer 1. Call Meeting to Order : 10:01am called to order by Alvin Roberts 2. Roll Call: A. Roberts - Present, M. Hall - Present, B. Balliet - Present, A. Johnson - Absent, P. Niemeyer - Absent Advisor: M. Lopez – Absent, C. Cervantes and A. Solis in attendance 3. Public Comment: Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the audience may address the Commission on any item of interest to the public or any agenda item before or during the Commission’s consideration of the item. Speakers shall restrict their comments to issues that are within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Commission and limit comments to a maximum of five (5) minutes. 4. Guest Speaker: none 5. Acceptance of Minutes: 28 December 2017 No comments, passed. 6. Old Business A. Comfrey Senior Apartment Complex – Update Resident Harlan tripped on curb at facility (picture provided on phone). Requested a ramp be put in, but was told no and could go around. Alvin questioning if is up to date with coding. Solis referred to contact code enforecement, there should be written documentation for this case. Roberts stated that Pennie Niemeyer is working with Cheryl on this matter. B. City Wide Survey of Needs of Seniors – Update Ongoing. No more responses, but has not been putting out either during holidays. C. Press Releases – Ongoing Bob had article published in Galt Herald regarding seniors getting out of their homes to socialize and participate in free or low cost activities. Question of problems with traspotation or lack of family support. Solis suggested and gave information for SCT (dial a ride). Also, will have Monica Lopez contact MOW ACC to inform of dial a ride contact info for those that sign up, but cannot drive. Bob complimented the City of Galt for publishing the COA information into the quarterly newsletter. D. Need for a Senior Center – status (create a task force) – Update Roberts: slow down during holidays, will try to form committee, more information in next meeting.  E. Visits to Galt’ Senior Living Centers – Alvin and Andrea continue Pat Mccormick provided Balliet with information on Lodi Senior Center (LOEL). Balliet and Roberts will plan a visit to Lodi, Elk Grove and Stockton Senior Centers. Solis offered that another room (Fairsite) can have scheduled senior activities. F. Wheelchair access for city building – update Balliet spoke with City Manager regarding letter sent to Mayor and City Council. In process, waiting to find out how money can be appropriated. Balliet will follow up periodically. G. Roberts asked if there is any other old business. Solis gave thanks to the Commision on Aging for their participation with the Winter Bird Festival. Balliet returned thanks to Solis for the attentiveness provided to them during participation. Roberts hopes to be invited again next year. 7. New Business A. Election of Officers Nomination by proxy from Niemeyer not permitted, must be present. Roberts nominated Balliet for Chairperson Position, Hall second, all in favor. Bob Balliet voted Chairperson for Commission on Aging. Balliet nominated Roberts for Vice Chairperson, Hall second, all in favor. Alvin Roberts Vice Chairperson for Commission on Aging. B. Solis suggested to give commission posters for Winter Bird Festival in 2019. Roberts suggested one tour to be Senior oriented, Balliet will put a column in Galt Herald. C. Balliet asked for Parks and Rec Advisor to resume taking minutes of meetings. D. Resident, Harlan, stating that the room used by senior club in Chabolla (snack room) is being left open and unauthorized people are going in stealing snacks. Solis stated that room should be locked at all times and only people in the room should be authorized people that possess a key to it. Solis also stated that if there is any trouble with this to inform him right away. 8. Announcements: a. Sacramento County Adult & Aging Commission Meeting is the fourth Wednesday of each month from 1:30-3:30pm. (www.sacramentoadultandaging.org/meetings.html) b. Galt Senior Club – 1pm Chabolla Center, 1st Monday business meeting/bingo, 2nd bingo, 3rd pot luck/bingo, 4th Birthday Cake/bingo, 5th donuts/bingo & every Thursday 12:45 – 2:45 Bingo. c. Aging Resources Exchange Meeting – 4th Tuesday each month location/time – 7000 65th St., Sacramento (Sac Sheriffs Florin Office Community Center, 9:30- 11:00am). 9.
