City of Galt AGENDA COMMISSION ON AGING GALT PARKS & RECREATION OFFICE CONFERENCE ROOM 610 CHABOLLA AVENUE, GALT, CA Thursday, April 26, 2018 10:00am Chairperson: Bob Balliet Commission: Alvin Roberts – Vice Chair, Marie Hall, Andrea Johnson, Pennie Niemeyer 1. Call Meeting to Order 2. Roll Call: B. Balliet, A. Roberts, M. Hall, A. Johnson, P Niemeyer Advisor: M. Lopez Guest: Mayor Lori Heuer Mayor Heuer was a guest at this month’s meeting. She answered questions from the Commission as well as guests at the meeting. She clarified what the non-profit rentals fees were for and what the additional costs to the City are. She also assured the Senior Club that the non0profit rental fees do not apply to them as they work with the Parks & Recreation Department. 3. Public Comment: Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the audience may address the Commission on any item of interest to the public or any agenda item before or during the Commission’s consideration of the item. Speakers shall restrict their comments to issues that are within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Commission and limit comments to a maximum of five (5) minutes. 4. Acceptance of Minutes: Mar 22, 2018 meeting. Accepted 5. Guest Speaker: Patricia Beal, Executive Director, Senior Center of Elk Grove (Will be invited to talk first). See 7 (1) below under New Business. Welcome city officials that may be present. Ms. Beal was present to answer questions regarding establishing a senior center in Galt. She was also asked if she would like to help Galt establish their own center. Ms. Beal emphasized how important it is to have a strong volunteer base and work on finding possible funding sources as most Cities probably do not have extra money to spare. She suggested setting up a Resource Center for a few hours a week with volunteers to see if working towards a Center is the direction the seniors of Galt wish to go. 6. Old Business A. Need for a Senior Center – status (create task force) – ongoing (Bob/Alvin) See above B. Visit to Galt Senior Living Centers – Alvin (Invitation to Mayor Heuer?) Visits arranged by (Andrea?) Mayor Heuer would be interested. She may also visit the Elk Grove Center. Andrea expressed interest in also visiting the Elk Grove Center. C. Press Release – Report on Apr Article – (Bob) D. Update on Stainless Residential issues – (Bob) This has been resolved for the time being. 7. New Business (1) Galt Senior Center –Welcome Ms. Patricia Beal, Executive Director of the Senior Center of Elk Grove to address Commission and invite Commissioners and City Officials that may be present to ask questions. (2) Senior Health Information Fair – Progress made thus far and what’s planned for the Fall of 2018. Alvin will begin working on this. (3) Wheel Chair Access – Progress made thus far and plan to come to a resolution in 2018. (4) City-wide survey for Seniors – Progress made thus far and plan to address what needs to be done to extend the senior audience for this project in the next few months. (5) Submission of Budget, justification for expense and amounts requested, to be submitted to City Clerk NLT Apr 30, 2018. (Bob/Alvin) 8. COMMISSIONERS REPORTS/COMMENTS 9. Announcements: a. Sacramento County Adult & Aging Commission Meeting is the fourth Wednesday of each month. (www.sacramentoadultandaging.org/meetings.html) b. Galt Senior Club – 1pm Chabolla Center, 1st Monday business meeting/bingo, 2nd bingo, 3rd pot luck/bingo, 4th Birthday Cake/bingo, 5th donuts/bingo & every Thursday 12:45 – 2:45 Bingo. c. Community Housing & Services Coalition Meeting – 4th Tuesday each month (Oct 25, 2016) location/time – 7000 65th St., Sacramento (Sac Sheriffs Florin Office Community Center). 10.
