City of Galt MINUTES COMMISSION ON AGING GALT PARKS & RECREATION OFFICE CONFERENCE ROOM 610 CHABOLLA AVENUE, GALT, CA Thursday, May 24, 2018 10:00am Chairperson: Bob Balliet Commission: Alvin Roberts – Vice Chair, Marie Hall, Andrea Johnson, Pennie Niemeyer - All Present 1. Call Meeting to Order 10:05am 2. Roll Call: B. Balliet, A. Roberts, M. Hall, A. Johnson, P Niemeyer Advisor: M. Lopez 3. Public Comment: Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the audience may address the Commission on any item of interest to the public or any agenda item before or during the Commission’s consideration of the item. Speakers shall restrict their comments to issues that are within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Commission and limit comments to a maximum of five (5) minutes. 4. Acceptance of Minutes: Apr 26, 2018 meeting. Accepted unanimously 5. Guest Speaker: None 6. Old Business A. Visit to Galt Senior Living Centers – Alvin (Invitation to Mayor Heuer) Visits arranged by (Andrea) Andrea would like to wait for new calendars to hand out B. Senior Health Information Fair – subject suspended until June meeting Alvin – should partner with another organization maybe make it a mini thing C. Wheel Chair Access – subject suspended until June meeting. D. City Wide Survey for Seniors – subject suspended until June meeting. E. Submission of Budget & justification for expense and amounts requested was submitted to City Clerk and the City Council. (Bob & Alvin) Bob, Thank you P&R for their help. They had answered questions by Council. They will give a copy of budget to commissioners. Most money commissioners has ever received. 7. New Business 1. Establishing a Senior Resources Center in Galt (Bob & Commission Members) Mayor Heuer supports Resource Center and has offered some of her money to help (office, computer, phone, etc). Bob will touch base with her. Andrea would like to have someone from 211 to discuss what they do (specifically for seniors?) Bob will make contact and ask someone to attend an upcoming meeting. Andrea would also like us to invite people from other organizations. Guest doesn’t think it is a good idea to have seniors work in the senior resource center. Bob submitted article to the Herald asking for volunteers - used MOW kitchen number - suggested that P&R number to be used instead and staff can forward any messages to the commission. Would like mission statement on website, newsletters, etc. Need desk, filing cabinet, computer, phone with answering machine, carts; it we start small. Bob will work on a blue print. 2. Request for approval of reimbursement of $45.43 spent in purchase of Outside Cover for protection from inclement weather while participating in Commission/Community activities (Item is stored with Parks & Recreation). Pennie & Andrea – unanimous. Purchases should be discussed prior to being made. Commissioners should vote to approve possible purchases (not to exceed a certain limit). 8. COMMISSIONERS REPORTS/COMMENTS 9. Announcements: a. Sacramento County Adult & Aging Commission Meeting is the fourth Wednesday of each month. (www.sacramentoadultandaging.org/meetings.html) b. Galt Senior Club – 1pm Chabolla Center, 1st Monday business meeting/bingo, 2nd bingo, 3rd pot luck/bingo, 4th Birthday Cake/bingo, 5th donuts/bingo & every Thursday 12:45 – 2:45 Bingo. c. Community Housing & Services Coalition Meeting – 4th Tuesday each month (May 29, 2018) location/time – 7000 65th St., Sacramento (Sac Sheriffs Florin Office Community Center). 10.
