Call Meeting to Order – 10:00am
Roll Call: Libby Robbins, Phyllis Johnson, Dennis McCall, Brendan Moore, Joan Werblun All Present
Advisor: Monica Lopez – Parks & Recreation Guests: Kaylee Joseph, Brittany Bitondo, & Sharon Allen
(Valhalla Club), Sara Martinez (Agency on Aging Area 4), and Kat Seabolt (Chamber)
Public Comment: Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the audience may address the Commission
on any item of interest to the public or any agenda item before or during the Commission's consideration of the item.
Speakers shall restrict their comments to issues that are within the subject matter authority of the Commission and limit
comments to a maximum of five (5) minutes.
Acceptance of Minutes: Meeting of July 25, 2024 Minutes approved (BM motioned, LR seconded – BM, LR,
DM, and JW in favor, PJ opposed).
A. New Business:
1. PRESENTATION: Valhalla Club (Kaylee Joseph) This is a new Club to Galt that is establishing itself
with the Community. This group would like to expand on what the Commission has done in the past
regarding collecting donations for seniors during the holiday season. They would like to collect items
for Gift Bags to deliver to Galt Place, Rancho Seco Nursing Home, Comfrey Senior Apartments, New
Hope Senior Village and Empire Village. They have asked the Commission to contribute by
collecting blankets and possibly socks. The Commission will discuss and let the Valhalla Club if they
will be participating.www.valhallaclubgalt.com
2. Grant Writing and Funding (Moore) Table for now. Please keep on future agendas.
3. Helping Hands Representatives not present. Table for now.
4. First Aid Supplies in Chabolla (Lopez) GSRC has a First Aid kit. Kit can have such items as band
aids, gauze, ice packs, etc. Kits cannot contain medicine, ointments, etc. P&R can help with
obtaining the correct items.
B. Old Business:
1. Commission on Aging Annual Report September 17th City Council Meeting (Robbins) LR has
created the report and submitted to P&R. Report will be emailed to Commissioners. BM and PJ will
be at the meeting to represent the Commission.
2. Bus Trips for Seniors to Casinos Update (Robbins/Johnson) First trip was very well received. 22 of
35 possible seats were filled. PJ will work on setting an October date. Brainstormed ways to get
firm commitments from participants since the trip is free of charge.
3. Bingo (All) 75-80 regularly attend. 87 attended this week. No Bingo on 9/2 due to holiday. May
need to limit number of donated raffle prizes and ask that only new items be donated. Also
discussed inspecting the items before raffling off.
4. Senior Resource Fair (Werblun) Kat Seabolt with the Chamber was also present.
Vendors/Organizations have been committing to attend. JW working on getting workshop
presenters.
5. Activities for Seniors (Robbins/Moore) LR and BM met to brainstorm different activities to sponsor for
seniors. Storytelling, senior walks, dog park play dates, swap meets, Cosumnes River Preserve Trips,
movie nights were some of the items proposed to offer seniors on a regular basis. Would also like to
create a newsletter to spotlight local seniors (Golden Spotlight). Would it be possible for the GSRC to
create its own Facebook page?
6. GSRC Presentations (Robbins) Discussed with #5.
7. LAPAD Update (Johnson) (Sacramento County Local Aging and Disability-Friendly Action Plan)
Sara Martinez shared the progress that LAPAD has made with listening sessions that they have
been having for the past 2 years to help decide what to focus on for Sacramento County residents.

Commissioner B. Moore: Also excited with what is currently happening with the Commission.
Commissioner J. Werblun: Working on getting the Resource Fair going.
