Meeting Minutes, May 7, 2018
Meeting held in City Council Chambers
A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Jesus Cuevas, Youth Chair, called the meeting to order at 6:00
P.M.
B. ROLL CALL:
Adult Mentors Present: Collier, Cross, Flores, Gordon, L. Klotz, Lampson
Youth Members Present: Cuevas, Franco, Celio Gonzalez, Cristian Gonzalez, O. Klotz, Rodriguez,
Sessions, Trevizo, Yebra
Youth Members Absent: Muller
C. PUBLIC COMMENT:
None
D. PRESENTATIONS:
Tina Hubert introduced herself to the youth commission and informed them she will serve as
the primary contact on behalf of the City Clerk’s office. She looks forward to assisting the youth
commission.
E. REGULAR BUSINESS:
1. Approval of minutes for the meetings of April 2, 2018
A motion was made to approve the April 2, 2018 minutes.
Moved: Rodriguez Second: Klotz Ayes: 9 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0
2. Treasurer’s Report
Treasurer Franco shared that the total balance for their unrestricted spending fund (Donation
Category) remains at $1,464.84. Franco also reviewed and verified receipts for the art exhibit in
the amount of $109.83 from Leesa Klotz as well as receipts from the May dinner in the amount
of $119.04 from John Gordon.
3. Community Project: Operation Earth: Project Green Art Exhibit
Adult Mentor Klotz thanked the subcommittee for all their work and gave special thanks to
Commissioner Celio Gonzalez for his involvement and persistence in the project. Each of the
commissioners shared their experience with the art exhibit and their favorite part of it.
4. Dia De Los Niños Library Event
Adult Mentor Collier thanked the commissioners who attended the event and helped with the
Galt Youth Commission’s face painting booth.
5. Kevin Tonn Memorial Run Update
Commissioner Sessions informed the commission that the Kevin Tonn Memorial Run is on June
30th and encouraged the commissioners to sign up to volunteer.
6. Galt Youth Commission Scholarship
Adult Mentor Flores shared that she contacted Dr. Chavez and was informed that there had not
been applications received for the Galt Youth Commission Scholarship. She added that Dr.
Chavez asked for a week extension for the deadline and the commission agreed to extend it.
7. Ice Cream Social
Adult Mentor Gordon shared that the ice cream social was an opportunity for new
commissioners and returning commissioners to get to know more about each other. He
requested the budget not to exceed $100.
A motion was made for the budget for the ice cream social not to exceed $100.

8. Galt Youth Commission Retreat Proposal
Adult Mentor Gordon shared information about the annual commission retreat and informed
the commission that he emailed Rangineh Azimzadeth Tosang and she sent him a proposal for
the retreat. He requested that the commission approved the budget not to exceed $1500. The
cost would be covered under the City Council Appropriation fund. This restricted funding
category currently has $2,500 and was not reflected in the Treasurer’s Report.
A motion was made for the budget for the Galt Youth Commission retreat not to exceed $1500.

A motion was made for the food budget for the Galt Youth Commission retreat not to exceed
$250.
9. Galt Youth Commission Adult Mentor Retreat Proposal
Adult Mentor Gordon presented a proposal for a Galt Youth Commission Adult Mentor Retreat.
He shared that it would be very beneficial as it would help the adult mentors prepare
themselves for the year and figure out the best ways to support the commissioners. He
requested that a budget be made for the expenditures not to exceed $1000. The cost would be
covered under the City Council Appropriation fund. This restricted funding category currently
has $2,500 and was not reflected in the Treasurer’s Report.
A motion was made for the budget for the Galt Youth Commission Adult Mentor Retreat
Proposal not to exceed $1000.

10. GYC Apparel
Adult Mentor Gordon asked the commission to approve a budget for shirts for the new Galt
Youth Commission members.
A motion was made for the budget for five new shirts not to exceed $200.
Moved: Sessions Second: Celio Gonzalez Ayes: 9 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0
11. Galt Herald Newspaper
Commissioner Yebra shared an article about elementary school teachers asking for “fair
wages.”
12. City Council Update
Councilmember Lampson shared that the city was starting to require people to maintain lawns
since the drought was over. She also shared that the City Council was considering charging non-
profit organizations for the use of city buildings.
13. 2018/19 Galt Youth Commissioners
The adult mentors recognized the commissioners leaving and said a few words about each of
them. Adult Mentor Gordon introduced the new commissioners and commissioners from the
review panel shared what stood out about them at the interview.
14. Around the Horn/ Give Your Gratitude
Adult Mentor Collier informed the commission about volunteer opportunities at the Bright
Future and Learning Centers in elementary schools during the summer. Commissioner Klotz
thanked the adult mentors for the opportunity they gave her and told the commission she was
going to miss them. Commissioner Celio Gonzalez shared some positive qualities of the new
commissioners. Commissioner Sessions thanked the adult mentors and congratulated the new
commissioners.
ADJOURNMENT: Youth Chair J. Cuevas adjourned the meeting at 7:40P.M.
