Meeting Minutes, January 7, 2019
Meeting held in City Hall Chambers
A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Vice Chair Ramos, called the meeting to order at 6:00
P.M.
B. ROLL CALL:
Adult Mentors Present: Cross, Flores, Gordon, L. Klotz, Lampson
Youth Members Present: Murillo Cuevas, Franco, Martin, Ramos, Rivas,
Rodriguez, Stalians, Trevizo,
Youth Members Absent: Gonzalez, Yebra
C. PRESENTATIONS: None
D. PUBLIC COMMENT: Barbara Payne, former City Council Member, talked about the
history of the Galt Youth Commission and presented photo albums that included the
work of the commission from previous years.
Lali Martinez, America’s Job Center/Sacramento Works, discussed her work and how her
center helps prepare students for the workforce and other subjects they need help with.
E. REGULAR BUSINESS:
1. Approval of minutes for the meeting of December 3, 2018
The Commission took action to approve the minutes.

2. Treasurer’s Report
Commissioner Franco gave us a new total balance of $878.33. These changes are based
on the Scholarships and the Community Projects.
3. Galt Youth Commission Scholarship
Adult Mentor Flores gave an overview on the scholarship process and selected a
subcommittee to review the application. They will decide the dates for the application
period will open and close. The subcommittee will also choose a new essay question. The
subcommittee consists of Commissioners Franco and Ramos.
4. City Council Update
Council member Lampson shared that Starbucks in Galt opened on December 20th.
There has also been security upgrades to the Council Chambers which was paid by a
grant.
5. GYC Team Building
Commissioner Cuevas discussed team building opportunities for consideration.
The Commissioners took a poll on which dates and times would be best for the escape
room. The Commissioners chose January 20 at 3:00 p.m. as the best option. Council
Member Lampson and Adult Mentor Cross volunteered to participate in this activity.
6. Winter Bird Festival
The Commission adopted a budget for this event not to exceed $200. The budget would
cover the cost of donuts, muffins, and coffee. The event will be on February 2nd from
10am to 4pm.

7. Rotary Community Dinner
The Commissioners who participated in this event gave a group reflection.
Commissioners Cuevas, Rodriguez, and Rivas said that the event was great and
interesting to learn from.
8. Eggstravaganza Pancake Breakfast
The Commission approved to commit to this event and will formally ask the Galt Lions
to partner for this event. The pancake breakfast is a fundraiser for the Galt Youth
Commission Scholarship. Commissioners Rodriguez and Martin volunteered to serve on
the subcommittee.

9. Lessons of Leadership
Adult Mentor Klotz provided this month’s lesson. The Commissioners did an exercise to
work on their public speaking workshop. They learned the importance of
communicating clearly, speaking with passion, eye contact, being conversational, and
being patient.
Adult Mentor Klotz exited at 6:50pm.
10. Community Project: Random Acts of Kindness
Commissioner Rodriguez shared that from February 9th to the 15th there will be a
different random act of kindness daily. On the 9th, the subcommittee will go to the
retirement homes to give valentines and roses. On the 10th, the commission will be
giving canned food. On the 11th, they will have a lemonade stand at a park. On the 12th,
they will give baked goods to various school office staff. On the 13th, the Commission
will make thank you cards to all the non-profits. On the 14th, they will give Valentine’s
around school. On the 15th, they will have a field day at Marengo Ranch Elementary
School. On January 18th and 19th, the subcommittee will work on the Valentine’s Day
cards and other projects.
11. Community Project: Valley Oaks Marketplace Project
Commissioner Ramos informed the Commission that there will be a six week Computer
Science Program at Valley Oaks Elementary School. The program will be on Tuesdays
and Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30. There is no needed budget for this project.
12. Community Project: Senior Technology Project
Commissioner Martin informed the Commission that Adult Mentor Klotz was able to get
a spot at the fellowship hall at the Galt United Methodist Church for this project. It is
confirmed that this project will be on Wednesdays from February 13th to April 24th. Any
volunteers will be able to come by 3:00 to participate. The Commission voted to commit
to this community project.

13. Community Project: Helping Adults with English
Commissioner Cuevas informed the Commission that they have not heard any new
feedback, to begin this project.
14. Galt Herald Newspaper
This item was tabled as Commissioner Rivas was not prepared to present.
15. Galt Herald Editorial Article
This item was tabled due to not having a meeting.

G. AROUND THE HORN GIVE YOUR GRATITUDE
Commissioner Ramos gave thanks to the meeting being much shorter than most.
Commissioner Stalians gave gratitude to Commissioner Ramos for running the meeting
today. Commissioner Franco gave thanks to Barbara Payne for giving the history of
Commission to us.
ADJOURNMENT: Chair Ramos adjourned the meeting at 7:09 PM.
