CITY OF GALT GALT YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS, 380 CIVIC DRIVE GALT, CALIFORNIA MONDAY, MAY 5, 2025 Mission Statement - Encourage the youth to participate in activities that are purposeful in building better citizens. - Stimulate community service in Galt. - Encourage family participation in building civic unity. - Strive to emphasize the diversity in our culture by encouraging interaction within the community. - Recognize that it takes all the members of the community to sustain change for the betterment of our youth and families. A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Chair Lallian called the meeting to order at 6:30 P.M. B. ROLL CALL: Youth Commissioners Present: Akers, Bowman, Camacho, Cullers, Oliveros-Rivera, Woods, Smith (6:50), Lallian, Ortega, Sandhu. Youth Commissioners Absent: Fewell, Myrick-Smith Mentors Present: Fjeldstad, Goerzen, Talon. Mentors Absent: City Council Liaison Farmer, Gray. C. PUBLIC COMMENT: Bill Becket shared a volunteering opportunity with the commissioners. D. PRESENTATIONS: None. E. REGULAR BUSINESS: 1. Icebreaker Information Item Mentor Harris asked commissioners to give a high, a low, and a buffalo about their week. 2. Minutes from April 7, 2025 Action Item Commissioners approved the April meeting minutes. Moved: Cullers Second: Woods Ayes: 9 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0 3. Eggstravaganza Update Discussion Item Commissioners shared that the event had a smaller turnout that usual. In future events commissioners will make posters for what they’re selling and what it’s for. 4. Treasurer Report Discussion Item Oliveros-Rivera shared that the commission raised $307.00 from the Eggstravaganza, making the new budget $7,235.16. 5. July 4th Parade Discussion/Action Item Commissioners formed a sub-committee; Camacho, Cullers, and Woods. A $150 budget for candy was also approved. Moved: Akers Second: Bowman Ayes: 10 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0 6. Trash Community Clean – Up Discussion Item Mentor Goerzen shared that the Beautification Committee will be bringing back their monthly clean ups. The next one will be on May 17th. 7. Team Bonding Trip Discussion Discussion Item Commissioners decided to have the trip on Monday, July 21, 2025. 8. City Council Update Information Item No updates were shared. 9. Council Appearance/Presentation Information Item Commissioners rescheduled the presentation for May 20, 2025. 10. Around the Horn Information Item Commissioners and mentors shared gratitude around the horn. 11. Future Agenda Items Information Item Adjournment Chair Lallian adjourned the meeting at 7:03 P.M. A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER/FLAG SALUTE: B. ROLL CALL: Youth Commissioners: Akers, Bowman, Camacho, Cullers, Fewell, Myrick-Smith, Oliveros–Rivera, Woods, Smith, Lallian, Ortega, Sandhu. Mentor: Mentor Goerzen, Mentor Fjeldstad, Mentor Talon, Mentor Gray, City Council Liaison: Mayor Farmer. C. PUBLIC COMMENT: Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the public may address the commission on any item of interest to the public. Speakers may address the commission on any agenda item during the consideration of the item. Please come to the podium and limit your comments to three (3) minutes. D. PRESENTATION(S): E. REGULAR BUSINESS: 1. Icebreaker Information Item Mentor Talon will facilitate an icebreaker. 2.Minutes from April 7, 2025 Action Item Recommendation: Approve the minutes from the April meeting. 3. Eggstravaganza Update Discussion Item Commissioners in attendance shall report on the experience. 4. Treasurer Report Discussion Item Treasurer Daniel will present the current funds with print outs from City Clerk. 5. July 4th Parade _ Discussion / Action Item Form a possible sub committee to plan for decorations and logistics of parade preparation. Discuss the designated lead mentor helping to guide this event. Figure who will be likely to attend. Discuss if a possible budget for candy may be approved. 6.Trash Community Clean - Up Discussion Item Discuss participation in trash clean - up. 7. Team Bonding Trip Discussion Discussion Item Discuss available dates for everyone to be able to attend the Sacramento Capitol Tour and team bonding experience. 8. City Council Update Information Item City Council Member Farmer will report on any updates concerning the city council. 9. Council Appearance / Presentation ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Information Item Attending commissioners shall report on the city council appearance presentation on May 1st. 10. Around the Horn Information Item Commissioners and mentors will go around and share thankfulness, good thoughts, etc. 11.
