GALT YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES
COMMUNITY CONFERENCE ROOM, 380 CIVIC DRIVE

Mission Statement
- Encourage the youth to participate in activities that are purposeful in building better citizens.
- Stimulate community service in Galt
- Encourage family participation in building civic unity.
- Strive to emphasize the diversity in our culture by encouraging interaction within the community.
- Collaborate with organizations devoted to the growth of youth
- Recognize that it takes all members of the community to sustain change for the betterment of our youth and families.
A. MEETING CALLED TO ORDER AT 6:33 PM
B. ROLL CALL: Youth Commissioners Present: Akers, Buzo, Cullers, Diaz, Dolan, Fewell,
Holden, Oliveros Rivera, Woods
Absent Commissioners: Camacho, John, Maldonado
Mentors Present: Fjeldstad, Goerzen, Harris; Council Liaison: Mayor Farmer
C. PUBLIC COMMENT - Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the public may
address the commission on any item of interest to the public. Speakers may address commission on
any agenda item during consideration of the item. Please come to the podium and limit your
comments to three (3) minutes.

E. REGULAR BUSINESS:
1. Icebreaker Information Item
Mentor Harris asked Commissioners: “What would you do day one as Mayor?”
2. City Clerk Introduction Information Item
Tabled as Tina Hubert, City Clerk was unable to attend.
3. Budget Report Information Item
Tabled as Tina Hubert, City Clerk was unable to attend.
4. Commissioner’s Responsibilities Information Item
Mayor Farmer went over Brown Act, Galt Youth Commission Bylaws and roles of the Youth
Commission.
5. Making a Motion Information Item
Mayor Farmer explained the basics of making a motion during a Galt Youth Commission Meeting.
Roseburg’s Rules of Order will be distributed as a resource.
6. Approval of minutes for the meeting of May 5, 2025 Action Item
Motion made by Akers, approved by Cullers and 2nd by Woods. Motion Passed 9-0.
7. Overview of Commission Bylaws and Officer Positions Information Item
Mentor Goerzen went over Officer Positions, jobs associated with them and commitments. Also,
attendance of monthly meeting was stressed as listed in the Bylaws. Mayor Farmer further discussed Galt
Youth Commission Bylaw details with Commissioners.
8. GYC Scholarships Action Item
Mentor Goerzen discussed the following scholarship winners and amounts:
Galt High School: Cindy Jaramillo-$1,000.
Liberty Ranch High School: Alexis Ortega-$1,000. Ninrajeet Dhulwal-$500. Lynze Smith-$500. Aisha
Rodriguez-$500. Kaitlyn Casto-$500.
Motion to approve made by Akers, Approved by Diaz and 2nd by Holden. Motion Passed 9-0.
9. GYC Polo's and T-Shirts____________ Action Item
Mentor Fjeldstad went over Quote from Galt Sign and Screenprinting for GYC Polo's and T-Shirts for
new Commissioners as well as Mentor Harris and Mayor Farmer.
Akers made a motion to approve purchase from Galt Sign not to exceed $500. Approval by Oliveros
Rivera and 2nd by Diaz. Motion Passed: 9-1.
10. Blue Angels or Hope Dinner & National Night Out______________________ Information Item
Mentor Goerzen went over Specifics of Blue Angels of Hope Dinner on Saturday 8/16/2025 and National
Night Out on Tuesday 8/5/2025 and got a head count of Commissioners that we able to attend both events.
11. September Scheduled Meeting _ ___Action Item
Mentor Harris presented that the next scheduled GYC Meeting falls on the Labor Day Holiday and it was
discussed whether to cancel or move the meeting to Monday September 8th at 6:30 pm making it a Special
Meeting. Akers made a motion to move the GYC Meeting as a Special Meeting to 9/8/2025 at 6:30 pm.
Approval by Cullers, 2nd by Holden. Motion Passed 9-0.

commission.

of the GYC include.
4. Commissioner Responsibilities Information Item
Galt City Clerk, Tina Hubert will overview the purpose and importance of the GYC ordinance,
bylaws, and Brown Act.
5. Making a Motion Information Item
Mayor Shawn Farmer will discuss the basics of making a motion & Roseburg's Rules of Order.

Recommendation: Approve the minutes.

Mentor: Harris Discussion for moving September meeting since it lands on a holiday and City Hall
is closed. Motion for Approval to move Meeting to the following Monday 9/8 as a Special Meeting.
