Special Meeting Minutes, January 8, 2018
Meeting held in City Council Chambers
A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Jesus Cuevas, Youth Chair, called the meeting to order at 6:00
P.M.
B. ROLL CALL:
Adult Mentors Present: Flores, Gordon, L. Klotz, Lampson
Members Absent: Collier, Cross
Youth Members Present: Cuevas, Franco, Celio Gonzalez, Cristian Gonzalez, O. Klotz, Muller,
Rodriguez, Sessions, Trevizo, Yebra
C. PUBLIC COMMENT:
None
D. PRESENTATIONS:
Passed due to lack of representation.
1. Icebreaker: Meet Jennifer Collier
Passed.
2. Approval of minutes for the meeting of December 4, 2017
A motion was made to approve the minutes of December 4, 2017 with amendments.
Moved: Rodriguez Second: Klotz Ayes: 10 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0
3. Treasurer’s Report
Commissioner Franco reviewed the funds in the Galt Youth Commission account. She shared
that the Galt Youth Commission total balance is $1,209.39. She also added that the funds were
most likely going to change in the month of January due to upcoming events.
4. Winter Bird Festival
Adult Mentor Klotz informed the commission that the Winter Bird Festival was on January 20,
2018. The commission was asked to help put out posters and flyers and were invited to provide
coffee and other concession items as they have done in previous years. A subcommittee was
formed with Commissioners Cuevas, Franco, and Cristian Gonzalez.
A motion was made for concessions not to exceed $200.

5. Community Project: Recycling Art Exhibit
Commissioner Celio Gonzalez shared that the subcommittee met and came up with a title,
finalized some details, assigned jobs, and were going to meet with teachers in two weeks.
Commissioner Klotz added that the subcommittee was in discussion of designing flyers and
posters and that they would need a lot of volunteers to help at the art exhibit. She also shared
that the name of the art exhibit was Operation Earth: Project Green.
6.Community project: “It Can Wait” Campaign
No new information.
7. Community Project: Little Library Project
Commissioner Rodriguez informed the commission that she could no longer continue as chair
for the Little Library Project.
A motion was made to drop the Little Library Project and return funding back to the general
fund.

8. Lessons of Leadership
Adult Mentor Klotz taught the youth commission that having different opinions is okay by
having commissioners share a fact, a personal truth, and their opinion on a topic with the rest
of the commissioners.
9. John Moran Scholarship
A subcommittee consisting of Commissioners Franco, Cristian Gonzalez, and Trevizo, with
Commissioner Gonzalez as chair, was formed to come up with the money distribution for prizes
and application process for the John Moran Scholarship. Adult Mentor Flores shared that there
had been three scholarships in the past, a month-long application process, and also suggested a
possible name change for the scholarship.
10. Eggstravaganza Pancake Breakfast
A subcommittee consisting of Commissioners Cuevas, Muller, Rodriguez, and Sessions, with
Commissioner Sessions as chair, was formed to plan for the Eggstravaganza Pancake Breakfast
fundraiser. Adult Mentor Lupe informed the commission that the subcommittee would have to
go to the Rotary and Lion’s Club to formally request for donations and volunteers as they have
in the past.
11. Galt Herald Newspaper
Commissioner Celio Gonzalez shared an article about Cars for Kids and how it successfully gave
toy cars to kids whose families couldn’t afford toys for Christmas.
12. Editorial Board Update
Commissioners Cristian Gonzalez and Yebra shared that the articles for the month were about
Galt High School Graduation Orientation, Liberty Ranch High School’s Winter Ball, Art Exhibit,
and the monthly Man on the Street.
13. City Council Update
Council Member Lampson shared that 2016/2017 preliminary report showed that many
businesses were under budget. She also shared that Mayor Heuer appointed Jennifer Collier as
a new member, the fifth anniversary of Officer Kevin Tonn’s murder was recognized at a
ceremony on January 15, 2018, and city council was looking to enforce codes with businesses
so their codes would be up to date.

Adult Mentor Klotz informed the commission that the Galt Rotary had announced their speech
contest and encouraged the commissioners to participate. Council Member Lampson invited
commissioners to participate in the “Meet and Greet with the Galt Police Department” at Café
Latte on Wednesday.
ADJOURNMENT: Youth Chair J. Cuevas adjourned the meeting at 7:25P.M.
