CITY OF GALT
PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING
MINUTES
ANTHONY PESCETTI COMMUNITY ROOM
455 INDUSTRIAL DRIVE, GALT, CALIFORNIA
Wednesday, July 29, 2015, 6:00 PM
Vice Chair Powers called the meeting to order at 6:05pm.
The roll call found Dahlgren, Doak, Lagge, Powers, Shelton, and Canning present.
We saluted the American Flag.
The minutes of the last meeting were presented to all members, Dahlgren requested a
correction to the street names he had inquired about during our last meeting. The
street names were listed incorrectly. The motion to approve as corrected, by
Shelton, was seconded by Lagge, the motion carried.
ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION:
EOP: The Emergency Operations Plan Updates were presented by Sgt. Walton.
ROUND TABLE:
Lagge commented on the weed abatement efforts this year. Noticed a much better job
than in recent years. Shelton added that folks seem to be doing “what they should
have been doing all along.”
Dahlgren advised of sidewalk buckling near and in front of Brewsters. Gwen Owens
advised there are two different sidewalk improvement projects going on and
believes this is one of the areas included. Owens will check and submit the issue if
not. Powers added that she had spoken to workers over on Lincoln Way recently
and they told her the Brewsters’ area was next.
Dahlgren also asked about the sidewalk buckling being caused by two large trees on the
property line of 220 Lois Avenue. Owens advised that this type of thing is usually the
property owners’ responsibility, but there is sometimes help available. Owens
agreed to check it out and get back to us.
Lt. Kalinowski gave an informational report on traffic citations and collisions since our last
meeting. Doak asked if our officers give “warning” cites. Kalinowski advised that
this up to the individual officer and varies depending on many factors, but yes, we
can and we do. Kalinowski advised he’s not sure if or how warnings are tracked,
but he’ll check into it.
Shelton noted that his prediction of illegal fireworks this year came true. Powers added
she was surprised that fireworks were even legal this year in light of the drought.
Shelton asked that Fireworks season preparedness, both New Year’s and
Independence Day, be included in our agenda’s for the meetings preceding those
events.
Our next meeting will be at 6:00 PM Wednesday, September 23, 2015.
Meeting was adjourned at 6:45pm.
