CITY OF GALT PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES ANTHONY PESCETTI COMMUNITY ROOM 455 INDUSTRIAL DRIVE, GALT, CALIFORNIA Monday, November 28, 2022, 6:00 PM The meeting was called to order at approximately 6:00pm by Chair Reed. Committee Members present were: Chair Reed, Vice Chair Schopf, McCord, and Cates Absent: Schamber and Vice Mayor Sandhu Staff Members present were: Police Chief Kalinowski. We pledged allegiance to the American Flag. PUBLIC COMMENT: No Public Comment PRESENTATION: Chief Kalinowski reviewed the department operations for Traffic Safety Month. A general discussion occurred. Chief Kalinowski advised it’s the Departments goal to move the Traffic Safety Month in conjunction with the national model in August. ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION: 1. The minutes from the July 25, 2022 meeting were reviewed and approved with a motion by motion from Cates and second by McCord with a vote 4-0. 2. Traffic Concerns: Discussion regarding the speeding and illegal parking near schools, as listed in the posted agenda. In addition, the item related to speed limit reduction was covered as being a county issue, based on location. 3. Fire Hazard-vacant lot Second and B Street. CSD fire Deputy Chief provided an update to this issues. A discussion about lot splits, lot lines and public property were covered. This item is being addressed. 4. Homeless Population safety concerns: A general discussion occurred and an update to issues on this topic. City Hall has been working on city wide issues related to the topic that are non-police related. At a future date the council will be engaged on potential policy or action items. The remaining items in the agenda, were continued to the next meeting: 1. Short On-Ramps to 99 2. ADA curb access a. E St. 3. Add right-hand turn lane a. Southbound Lincoln at A st. 4. Road Repair a. Between C & B & 2nd & 3rd 5. Adding sidewalk a. On Carillion Blvd between Lake Park & Twin Cities UPDATES: The Chief advised of the open committee positions and the closing date. Those who were electing not to continue were thanked for their service. CORRESPONDENCE: No correspondence. COMMENTS BY COMMITTEE MEMBERS: No items or topics were brought forward beyond the items discussed in the meeting. Next meeting is scheduled for January 23, 2023. With no further business, Chair Reed adjourned the meeting. ###
