Meeting Minutes, April 8, 2019
Meeting held in City Hall Chambers
380 CIVIC DRIVE GALT, CALIFORNIA
A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Chair Gonzalez, called the meeting to order at 6:01
P.M.
B. ROLL CALL:
Adult Mentors Present: Collier, Cross, Gordon, L. Klotz, Lampson
Adult Mentors Absent: Flores
Youth Members Present: Murillo Cuevas, Franco, Gonzalez, Ramos,
Rivas, Rodriguez, Stallians, Trevizo, Yebra
Youth Members Absent: Martin
C. PRESENTATIONS: Jackie Garcia came to inform the Commission about the Kevin
Tonn Run that will take place on July 4th from 7:00-9:30 a.m. She came to ask the
Commission if they were available volunteer that day and hand out flyers.
D. PUBLIC COMMENT: Thomas Haglund came to introduce himself as the appointed
City Manager. He thanked the Commission for their service throughout the community.
E. REGULAR BUSINESS:
1. Icebreaker: Public Speaking Tips
Adult Mentor Klotz lead the icebreaker with why promotional skills were important. The
Commission gave their input on what they saw was important for their promotional
events.
2. Approval of minutes for the meeting of March 4, 2019
The Commission took action to approve the minutes.

3. Treasurer’s Report
Commissioner Franco gave us a total balance of $946.66. This is due to the update of the
Winter Bird Festival income which was $124.75. The Winter Bird reimbursement was
$56.43.
4. City Council Update
Councilmember Lampson presented this month’s city council update. The City
Manager has resigned and parents have shown interest in wanting to create a teen
center in town. There are also nonprofit events that are paid by the city and so far 11
events have asked to be sponsored, the city is also planning on constructing more
apartments.
5. Galt Youth Commission Scholarship
This item was tabled as Adult Mentor Flores was not able to participate.
6. Final Dinner Meeting Budget Proposal
The Commission discussed the dinner considerations for the last meeting. The
Commission had decided on pizza and for the budget not to exceed more than $200.

7. Ice Cream Social Budget Proposal
The Commission discussed the purpose of the ice cream social, which is to invite the
new Commissioners and their parents to find out what the GYC is and what they are
trying to do. The budget is to not exceed $100.

8. GYC Recruitment Update
The Subcommittee has finalized the application and amended the questions.
There are announcements at both High Schools for open applications. There are nine
applications so far. Commissioner Murillo Cuevas gave an overview of the KDOG
announcements at McCaffrey Middle School. The interviews will take place on April
22 and 23.
9. GYC Team Building Reflection
The Commission gave a reflection on their experience of the Escape Room. They
enjoyed this activity. The Commission thought they needed to build their
communication and participation as a big group. It was a great experience that they
would try again.
10. Eggstravaganza Pancake Breakfast
The Subcommittee gave an update on the Pancake Breakfast. This event will take place at
the Estrellita Ballroom on April 13th from 7:00-10:00. The Commission got a $200
check. The Commission has the majority of the needed materials, Adult Mentor Klotz
and Commissioner Rodriguez checked the inventory to see what was needed. Ault
Mentor Klotz will go to the store to buy the rest of the materials. The Commission will
have a budget to not exceed $300. Some Commissioners had informed that they will not
be able to attend this event.

11. Gallup Strengths
Strengths Coach Jennifer Collier provided this month’s lesson by showing the
Commissioner's how to present themselves in a leadership position by explaining how
they can use their best strengths.
12. Community Project: Valley Oaks Makerspace Project
Commissioner Ramos gave an update on this project. They have mentors at both Lake
Canyon and Valley Oaks Elementary Schools. They have a total of seven mentors. The
students attending these events are learning how to code in the BFLC and are doing a
project of their own which is storytelling through code.
13. Community Project: Senior Technology Project
Adult Mentor Klotz gave an update on behalf of Commissioner Martin. She informed the
Commission that the project was doing great and that it was different from what they had
initially planned it to be. The project has become more of a one on one relationship. The
next time this project will take place is Wednesday, April 24th, and it is a great
experience. Some of the people who attend this event would be interested for this project
to continue during the fall.
14. Galt Herald Newspaper
Commissioner Yebra presented this month’s article. She talked about the progress of the
school facilities improvements at the elementary schools as a result the community
passing Measure K. Some of the improvements included the multipurpose room at Valley
Oaks being renovated and camera and safety upgrades at all the schools.
15. Galt Herald Editorial Articles
The Subcommittee will do these upcoming editorial topics. Commissioner
Franco will write an art article. Commissioner Gonzalez will write an article about
college. Commissioner Rivas will write an article on Commissioner Martin’s Senior
Technology project. Commissioner Yebra will write an art article as well. Commissioner
Cuevas will write an article about Earth Day.
F. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
Future agenda items will consist of a discussion on good dates for a retreat and the
GYC Scholarship.
G. AROUND THE HORN/GIVE YOUR GRATITUDE
Adult Mentor Klotz thanked the audience for attending this month’s meeting. Jennifer
Collier thanked the Commission for being brave and open about their strengths
development. Adult Mentor Cross also thanked the Commissioner’s who went to the
escape room, and the hard work and passion they have put into their projects this year.
ADJOURNMENT: Chair Gonzalez adjourned the meeting at 7:25PM.
