CITY OF GALT GALT YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS, 380 CIVIC DRIVE GALT, CALIFORNIA MONDAY, APRIL 7, 2025 Mission Statement - Encourage the youth to participate in activities that are purposeful in building better citizens. - Stimulate community service in Galt. - Encourage family participation in building civic unity. - Strive to emphasize the diversity in our culture by encouraging interaction within the community. - Recognize that it takes all the members of the community to sustain change for the betterment of our youth and families. A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Chair Lallian called the meeting to order at 6:31 P.M. B. ROLL CALL: Youth Commissioners Present: Akers, Bowman, Camacho, Cullers, Fewell, Oliveros-Rivera, Woods, Smith (6:48), Lallian, Ortega, Sandhu. Youth Commissioners Absent: Myrick-Smith Mentors Present: City Council Liaison Farmer, Fjeldstad, Goerzen, Gray, Talon. Mentors Absent: None. C. PUBLIC COMMENT: None. D. PRESENTATIONS: None. E. REGULAR BUSINESS: 1. Icebreaker Information Item Mentor Harris asked commissioners their about what personality trait they thought was a weakness, but then recycled to be a strength. 2. New Mentor Introduction Information Item Mentor Gray introduced herself to the commissioners. 3. Minutes from March 3, 2025 Action Item Commissioners approved the March meeting minutes. Moved: Woods Second: Akers Ayes: 10 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0 4. Scholarship Update Discussion/Action Item Mentor Goerzen informed commissioners that there are 22 applicants. 5. Recruitment 2024 – 2025 Interview Subcommittee Discussion Item Commissioners decided that Woods, Oliveros-Rivera, Fewell, Cullers, Camacho, Ortega, and Lallian will conduct the interviews. 6. Treasurer Report Discussion Item Oliveros-Rivera shared that there were no changes to the budget of $6,928.16. 7. Projects for the year updates Information Item Commissioner Woods shared that for the Elementary School Project they may need help planting trees and more updates will be sent through Band. 8. Eggstravaganza Update Discussion Item Commissioners discussed how baskets will be collected, and what supplies are needed. 9. Team Bonding Trip Discussion Item Mentor Talon went over the possibility of a Sacramento Capitol Tour. 10. Podcast Update Discussion Item Farmer shared that only Ortega was able to make it, and they’re hoping for more commissioners to join next time. 11. City Council Update Information Item Council Liaison Farmer shared updates on the district map, and alternating parade routes. 12. Council Appearance/Presentation Information Item Commissioners planned to attend the May 1st council meeting. 13. Leesa Klotz Presentation Information Item Leesa Lotz presented on school food waste to commissioners and asked for ideas to help reduce waste in high schools. 14. Around the Horn Information Item Commissioners and mentors shared gratitude around the horn. 15. Future Agenda Items Information Item Team Bonding Trip 4th of July Parade Adjournment Chair Lallian adjourned the meeting at 8:05 P.M. Minutes prepared by Secretary, Navkiran Sandhu.

UNIT A GALT, CALIFORNIA MONDAY, APRIL 7, 2025, 6:30PM Mission Statement - Encourage the youth to participate in activities that are purposeful in building better citizens. - Stimulate community service in Galt - Encourage family participation in building civic unity. - Strive to emphasize the diversity in our culture by encouraging interaction within the community. - Collaborate with organizations devoted to the growth of youth - Recognize that it takes all members of the community to sustain change for the betterment of our youth and families. A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER/FLAG SALUTE: B. ROLL CALL: Youth Commissioners: Akers, Bowman, Camacho, Cullers, Fewell, Myrick-Smith, Oliveros–Rivera, Woods, Smith, Lallian, Ortega, Sandhu. Mentor: Mentor Goerzen, Mentor Fjeldstad, Mentor Talon, Mentor Gray, City Council Liaison: Mayor Farmer. C. PUBLIC COMMENT: Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the public may address the commission on any item of interest to the public. Speakers may address the commission on any agenda item during the consideration of the item. Please come to the podium and limit your comments to three (3) minutes. D. PRESENTATION(S): E. REGULAR BUSINESS: 1. Icebreaker Information Item Mentor Talon will facilitate an icebreaker. 2. New Mentor Introduction Information Item We are incredibly grateful and excited to welcome our Mentors! Mentor Amber and Mentor Talon can take this time for introductions. 2. Minutes from March 3, 2025 Action Item Recommendation: Approve the minutes from the March meeting. 3.Scholarship Update Discussion/Action Item Mentor Goerzen shall give an update. 4. Recruitment 2024 - 2025 Interview Subcommittee Discussion Item If you are a senior or are not in the reapplication process for the Commission; commissioners can discuss who would like to attend interviews. One commissioner per interview day. 5. Treasurer Report Discussion Item Treasure Daniel will present the current funds with print outs from City Clerk. 6. Projects for the year updates _ Information Item Report on activities for the year. 7. Eggstravaganza Update Discussion Item Assign responsibilities and roles for running the event. Set - up time 7:15 AM - 8:30 AM. Designated Mentor: Fjeldstad. 8. Team Bonding Trip Discussion Discussion Item Discuss dates and trip ideas for July. Idea: Sacramento Capitol tour? 8. Podcast Update Discussion Item Update for those who spoke on the Podcast. Topics discussed / Experience? 7. City Council Update Information Item City Council Member Farmer will report on any updates concerning the city council. 8. Council Appearance / Presentation Information Item Commissioners shall plan council meetings attendance and make presentations for annual updates. Sub-committee Report: Kareena, Gaby, Nav, Abby, Danielle, and Lynze. Two Dates for City Council Meeting: 1st & 3rd Thursday for City Council Presentation. 9. Leesa Klotz Presentation Information Item Leesa Klotz shall present on school food waste and youth outreach. 10. Around the Horn Information Item Commissioners and mentors will go around and share thankfulness, good thoughts, etc. 11.
