CITY OF GALT GALT YOUTH COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES COMMUNITY CONFERENCE ROOM, 380 CIVIC DRIVE GALT, CALIFORNIA MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2025, 6:30PM Mission Statement - Encourage the youth to participate in activities that are purposeful in building better citizens. - Stimulate community service in Galt - Encourage family participation in building civic unity. - Strive to emphasize the diversity in our culture by encouraging interaction within the community. - Collaborate with organizations devoted to the growth of youth - Recognize that it takes all members of the community to sustain change for the betterment of our youth and families. A. MEETING CALLED TO ORDER: at 6:35 p.m. B. ROLL CALL: Youth Commissioners Present: Akers, Buzo, Camacho, Cullers, Diaz, Dolan, Holden, John, Maldonado (6:48), Oliveros Rivera, Woods Absent Commissioners: Fewell Mentors Present: Fjeldstad, Goerzen, Harris, Council Liaison Farmer C. PUBLIC COMMENT: - Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the public may address the commission on any item of interest to the public. Speakers may address commission on any agenda item during consideration of the item. Please come to the podium and limit your comments to three (3) minutes. D. PRESENTATIONS: City Clerk Tina Hubert went over GYC protocol, Brown Act, current budget and protocol, bylaws, roles, and responsibilities of city to the commission. E. REGULAR BUSINESS: 1. Icebreaker Information Item Mentor Harris asked Commissioners to talk about a time they had a "boat moment' and how things went sideways. 2. Budget Report Information Item Presented by City Clerk, Tina Hubert. 3. Officer Election Information Item Officers for the GYC were elected as follows: Chair: Oliveros Rivera, Vice-Chair: Woods, Secretary: Diaz, Treasurer: Akers, Sergeant-at-arms: Camacho, Public Relations: John, Fundraising Chair: Cullers, Community Liaison: Dolan. 4. Approval of minutes for the meeting of August 4, 2025. Action Item Motion made by Woods and 2 nd by Holden. Passed 11-0. 5. Blue Angles of Hope Recap Information Item Motion made to table agenda item, moved by Camacho and 2 nd by Cullers. Passed 11 -0. 6. National Night Out Recap Information Item Motion made to table agenda item, moved by Camacho and 2 nd by Cullers. Passed 11-0. 7. Capitol Field Trip Recap Information Item Motion made to table agenda item, moved by Camacho and 2 nd by Cullers. Passed 11-0. 8. Galt High Alumni Dinner Information Item Commissioners discussed possible attendance. 9. Saturday Market Attendance Information Item Commissioners discussed possible attendance. 10. Trunk R Treat Information Item Commissioners discussed possible attendance, Cullers will get back with details. 11. Fundraising Brainstorm Information Item Motion made to table agenda item, moved by Camacho and 2 nd by Cullers. Passed 11 -0. 12. Input on Scholarships Information Item Motion made to table agenda item, moved by Camacho and 2 nd by Cullers. Passed 11 -0. 13. City Council Update Information Item Motion made to table agenda item, moved by Camacho and 2 nd by Cullers. Passed 11-0. 14. Approval of Minutes for August 4, 2025 _________________ ______Action Item RECOMMENDATION: Approve the minutes. 5. Blue Angels of Hope Recap ________ _____Information Item Discussion about how the Blue Angels of Hope Dinner went and how it could go better in the future. 6. National Night Out Recap Informational Item Discussion about how National Night Out went and how it could go better in the future. 7. Capitol Field Trip Recap Informational Item Discussion about how the field trip to the State Capitol went and how it could go better in the future. 8. Galt High Alumni Dinner Informational Item Commissioners will discuss possible attendance of the Galt High Alumni Dinner 9. Saturday Market Attendance Informational Item Commissioners will discuss possible attendance of the Galt Saturday Market to either promote the Galt Youth Commission or as a fundraising opportunity. 10. Trunk R Treat Informational Item Commissioners will discuss possible attendance of the Trunk R Treat event. 11. Fundraising Brainstorm Informational Item Commissioners will discuss opportunities for fundraising. 12. Input on Scholarships Informational Item Commissioners will discuss ways that they can become more involved in the scholarship process or if it is a good idea. 13. City Council Update Informational Item Council Liaison Farmer will give an update on recent happenings in Galt and the City Council. 14. Around the Horn Informational Item Commissioners will share something they are grateful for.
