MINUTES OF THE GALVESTON CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING-TUESDAY FEBRUARY 9, 2021 MEETING VIA ZOOM l. DECLARATION OF A QUORUM AND CALL MEETING TO ORDER a. With a quorum present, the meeting was called to order at 2:03pm Present: Chairman Nick Barbee, Pat Jakobi, Mary Longorria, Trey Click, Ken Shelton, Sherrill Hilton, Michael Woody, Kathleen DiNatale, Mayor Dr. Craig Brown b.Minutes of January meeting reviewed, corrections to minutes noted c. Word on the Street: Nick Barbee announced the Art & Literacy Contest seeking volunteers to serve as judges for contest. Michael Woody announced that Visit Galveston website has a self-guided tour of sites for African American History in recognition of Black History Month . Dennis Nance of GAC noted the passing of former Curator Clint Wintour. Mr. Nance also Clarified GAC’s position on Artwalk as not sponsoring the event due to COVID restrictions. II. REPORTS a. Chair’s update: Nick Barbee Public Arts Grants & Flag submissions b. Cultural Arts Masterplan nothing to report III. DISCUSSION and ACTION ITEMS a. Public Arts Grants : 24 proposals received, Dropbox set up for accessing & reviewing submissions based on 1)feasibility 2) artistic merit 3) location b.City Flag Designs: Commission discussed the 10 semi-final flag submissions with input from Megan Pierce, of City on comments received, with data on rankings. 3 designs chosen to submit to City Council for final decision.
