MINUTES OF THE GALVESTON CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING, TUESDAY, JANUARY 11, 2022, 2:00 PM VIRTUAL MEETING VIA ZOOM I. DECLARATION OF QUORUM AND CALL MEETING TO ORDER a. With a quorum present the meeting was called to order at 2:04 PM by Chair Kathleen DiNatale. Present: Ken Shelton, Pat Jakobi, Trey Click, Nick Barbee, Jan Collier. Absent: Sherrill Hilton, Mary Longoria, Michael Woody. For the City: Megan Pierce, Barbara Sanderson, COG Legal. b. Review of Minutes: Minutes for December regular meeting reviewed and approved. c. Word on the Street: Nick Barbee announced that he has a show opening at the Galveston Arts Center starting on ArtWalk, January 15. Megan reported that the Martin Luther King, Jr. parade will be held on Saturday, January 19, at 1:00 p.m. and the Chili Quest/ Beer Fest will be held downtown January 14-15. The application for Public Art Grants for 2022 is now online on the CAC website and the CAC membership roster has been updated. II. REPORTS a. Chair’ s Update: As requested at the last CAC meeting, the Z Krewe has submitted a letter regarding their Mardi Gras street art. That letter will be submitted to the Council for their meeting on the 27th. The CAC has recommended that the request be approved. All future applications, included the Red Light Roasters request discussed at the last CAC meeting, will go through the formal application process. That application will be posted on the CAC website in the next few days. b. Lisa Shaw of the Galveston Arts Center gave an update on the Cultural Arts Masterplan. She summarized the history of the plan since 2018 and reported that a new entity, the Galveston Cultural Connection, will assume leadership of the Masterplan and will be introducing a website in the near future. Antoinette Lynch will chair the project. A discussion of the geographic scope of the Masterplan followed. III. DISCUSSION AND ACTION ITEMS a. Marissa Barnett, the Public Information Office for the city, gave an overview of the public campaign to promote applications for the 2022 Public Arts Project. Members of the CAC suggested other sources for disseminating information and suggested that a series of interviews with the recipients of the 2021 awards might be beneficial to the effort. I-45 News has expressed interest in promoting the program. Members expressed support in having applications sent to CAC members as they are submitted, either through Dropbox or some other method. IV.
