Program Reports A. Homeschool Open Skate – 20 Participants Mark Jacobs questioned whether this would be open to anyone. Brad affirmed that that is possible; it was just marketed to home school  children because it was ran at 11am. Next year we will have more dates for this event, and it will also be advertised in the upcoming playbook. B. Kickball – 7 Teams One team has a “buy week” due to uneven amount of teams C. Softball – Thursday 8 - Teams, Sunday 1pm – 6 - Teams, 3:30pm 4 – Teams Next year spring softball will not begin until after the Kerwin Classic. This will help with weather issues, holiday issues, and hopefully bring out more teams with a later start date next year. D. Cornhole – 10 Teams E. Mother/Son – 5 Participants F. Father/Daughter – 5 Participants G. Camp GC – Averaging 5 Kids Per Week H. Home Alone Safety – 1 Participant $5 per participant I. Yoga – 40 Participants J. Cardio Drumming – 14 Participants K. Craft Day – 10 Participants L. Parents Night Out – 20 Participants Sold out last three months; themes are being well embraced by parents and kids. Will need more staff to up the number of participants allowed to sign up. M. Wacky Science Show – 34 Participants N. Wildlife Safari – 57 Participants O. Kerwin Classic Saturday (with the terrible rain) the parks & rec staff along with GCYAA volunteers were able to prep the fields quickly and only lost 1 round of games. IV. Old Business A. Helen Park Bid – Project Has Started New Sign arrived May 5th. The company working on new walkway had stuck machinery due to poor weather and that problem has been addressed. Ribbon cutting ceremony will be scheduled when completed. Signage will include “Wayne County Playground Grant” acknowledgement. B. City Park ADA Ramps and Parking Update Out for Bid; came back with $28,332. We only have a budget of $17,500 so the bid was sent back in hopes of trimming the costs. Ray is checking with Alan to get the bid down. Mark Jacobs suggested that the City could cover the overage and should be brought up at a city council meeting. C. Park Inspection V. New Business A. Playground Idea Packet Next meeting bring ideas Playground Equipment: Brad will email three different companies were looking at to commission so they can compare different choices Slides: Open or Closed? Twisted Structure for Climbing: Rope? Rockwall? Swings: ADA, Baby or “regular”? B. Mom2Mom Sale – June 4 & 5 $20 per table for both days / 6 people have already signed up C. Budget Update Brad has presented the budget to commission that he submitted to City Council. New items: increase of $3000 for postage due to Playbook mailings Increase of $4,700 for annual fee of Civic Rec Software for Online System Family Resource has a surplus ($120,000). They had record numbers in March. They have added a case manager. Increase of $10,000 for operation funds and increase of $15,000 for educational funds. They have also seen a decrease of $6,000 in tuition funds and $7,000 in contractional professional.  Bottom Line: Parks and Recreation is asking for a total of $18,000 increase in Budget and a Full Time Position added to staff due to Radcliff move and the need for Full Time Position at Ice Arena. Open Discussion Public Addressing the Commission: Helen park concerns: Sidewalk issues; addressing the flooding; affecting nearby residents. Discussions have gone back to 2019 according to neighbors regarding the flooding; Kate Smith had the same concerns regarding Florence Park and DPW was able to correct that issue at Florence and she believes they can do the same for Helen Park. Brad addressed Changes in the Fee Schedule: Some fees have been “taken out” due to the rapid and unexpected changes that can affect costs and fee. Specifically, the Softball and Dance Programs. Jennifer McConnell: Garbage cans needed at Manor Park in between Willow tree between fields. Branches need attention at Manor Park Sue McFadden: Windy days are causing garbage cans to fly everywhere (We have already addressed this issue by putting cinder blocks in the bottom of cans.) Mark Jacobs: He confirmed that the path between City Park and Henry Ruff is the City’s property, and we will be replacing the fencing along said path. He also requested that the Recreation Commission Packets that go out prior to meeting would be delivered earlier so that everyone can get a chance to go through all the information. VIII.
