Gardner Elementary School Financial Subcommittee Meeting Minutes Wednesday, May 5, 2021 Zoom Meeting 4:00 p.m. Members Present Dr. Mark Pellegrino, Superintendent of Schools; Wayne Anderson, Facilities, Director; Jennifer Pelavin, School Committee Vice Chair; Robert Hankinson Gardner Citizen & Former City Engineer; Joshua Cormier, Purchasing Director, City of Gardner; Also Present Alternate member, Robert Swartz, School Committee Member; Dr. Steve Hemman, Special Projects Assistant to the Superintendent; Dr. Catherine Goguen, Chief Academic Officer, Gardner Public Schools; Tim Alix, Project Manager; Matthew Dunn, Sr. Construction Representative, Colliers International; Kristian Whitsett, Architect, Jones-Whitsett Architects; Steve Rockwood, Community Member; Brenda Smith, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent; Recording Secretary. Regrets Margo Jones, Designer, Jones-Whitsett Architects, Mayor Michael Nicholson, City of Gardner; Colin Smith, Executive Aide to the Mayor, City of Gardner; Alan Minkus, OPM; Colliers International; Call to order Superintendent Pellegrino called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. Approve Minutes Mr. Robert Hankinson moved to approve the minutes from the Financial Subcommittee Meeting on April 7, 2021 at 4:00 P.M. Mr. Whitsett explained the fencing placement to the committee. Ms. Pelvain asked about the average drop off on the two different spots. Mr. Whitsett explained a fence at the 8’ drop & one at the 42” with a fence on that side. Mr. Anderson explained the request for electric for a future greenhouse underneath the new driveway of new school to the field, for a green house in the future. Mr. Whitsett explained the concrete incased (2) conduit that will be going under the street to the field. Ms. Pelavin asked about the bleachers, asking if wood was more durable than plastic molded benches. Mr. Whitsett explained the decision due to color choices, not that many options and all pretty bright, so didn’t think it would fit in as well for a school in the woods. Ms. Pelavin expressed her thoughts on plastic seats breaking. Wood seems to last longer that was her main concern, don’t want to be replacing benches every other year. Mr. Swartz expressed the same feeling as Ms. Pelavin. Mr. Wayne Anderson moved to approve Change order # 3. of all highlighted items in the amount of $82,639.33 Seconded by Mr. Robert Swartz Vote - so voted Site Reports Mr. Matthew Dunn informed the committee, that since last week’s visit 1/2 the footings in building C are poured. They are forming walls now at Building A, 80% underground sanitary piping is in place, and we have a plumbing inspection on Friday. The big work is on the parking lot, 6-10 man holes going in, along with drainage and filtration. Report from Architects Updates: Travel signs up and all set. The meeting adjourned at 4:36p.m.
