Georgetown Police Committee Meeting August 5, 2024 Attendance: Mayor Jenkins, CAO Golden, CA Buttrum, City Clerk Hoffman, Council Member Hambrick, Council Member Stone, Chief Allgood, & Captain Lodal Minutes from the July 1, 2024 meeting were approved. Staffing & Recruiting. Chief Allgood reported that 69 of 73 slots are filled. Non-certified application process is closed, with 22 applicants. There will be a scheduled date for the POPS testing. Georgetown College is hosting a job fair, August 26 from 2pm until 4pm. Chief stated that there are currently three people interested in the intern positions. One has been approved and one other slot is open. Body worn cameras. Captain Lodal stated that they will be going live soon. He reported that there are still some issues to deal with. The upgrade to the Wi-Fi and the integration with the CAD system. Allen James was a great hire, as he has brought outside the box thinking. IT Sarah James has been instrumental in working with Spectrum on the Wi-Fi and integration issues. The vehicles are one of the last hurdles as well, installing the communication system between the car and the BWC. The traffic unit will also be getting in car cameras as well that transmit to the BWC. It was brought by Council Member Hambrick about the use of the cameras inside the schools. It follows the same protocols that the sheriff’s office follows. The School Resource Officer positions are full. The last position was Western Elementary School. There will still be walk-throughs with on duty officers as well as the SROs that are stationed at the schools. Discussion of E-Bikes. Chief Allgood reported that Officer Rodney Johnson oversees the bike unit. The bike unit just got the approval to dispose of the Segways. They are also looking at getting electronic bicycles. They are still looking at the pros and cons of the bikes. The fall class of the CPA will start on September 17 and will conclude November 19. This will be the 28th class hosted by the GPD. Some of the classes will be held at the Ed Davis Learning Center and some classes will be held at the Police Station. Special Events Ordinance. This is still in the draft form. Some items discussed were the limiting of closure of East Main Street, allowing events in the City Parking lot, and the implementation of an administrative fee and a required deposit. General Discussion. • Incident with K9 Rex. GPD is currently going through an investigation of the incident and has nothing to report at this time. • CA Emilee Buttrum reported that she and HR Director Megan Miller have been conducting interactive trainings with several departments, including GPD, on the progressive disciplinary process. • There was a request for extra patrol during the evening and nighttime hours in the Peninsula subdivision. This is due vehicles being broken into and items being stolen. With no other discussion, the meeting was adjourned.
