MINUTES OF THE GILBERT TOWN COUNCIL IN REGULAR MEETING OF TUESDAY, JANUARY 08, 2019 AT 6:00 PM, MUNICIPAL CENTER I, COUNCIL CHAMBERS, 50 E CIVIC CENTER DRIVE, GILBERT, ARIZONA COUNCIL PRESENT: Mayor Jenn Daniels, Vice Mayor Brigette Peterson, Councilmembers Scott Anderson, Eddie Cook, Victor Petersen, Jordan Ray, and Jared Taylor COUNCIL ABSENT: None STAFF PRESENT: Town Manager Patrick Banger, Town Clerk Lisa Maxwell, Town Attorney Christopher Payne AGENDA ITEM CALL TO ORDER Mayor Jenn Daniels called the meeting to order at 6:06 p.m. Mayor Jenn Daniels recognized elected officials and dignitaries in the audience. INVOCATION AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE The Gilbert Fire and Police Color Guard posted the colors. Catherine and Dominic Cook; and Ashley, Clara, Dallin, Lexi, and Thomas Ray led the Pledge of Allegiance. Gilbert Police Officer Steve Jelen sang the National Anthem. Father Pawel Stawarczyk of St. Luke’s Catholic Church gave the invocation. PRESENTATIONS; PROCLAMATIONS 1. RECOGNITION - Recognition of Brigette Peterson for her service as Vice Mayor for the Town of Gilbert. Mayor Jenn Daniels recognized Councilmember Brigette Peterson for her service as Vice Mayor for the Town of Gilbert. An engraved pen was presented to Councilmember Brigette Peterson. 2. Presentation of Election Certificates by Mayor Jenn Daniels. Mayor Jenn Daniels presented the Election Certificates to Councilmembers Eddie Cook, Brigette Peterson, Jordan Ray, and Aimee Yentes. 1 3. Oath of Office by Presiding Judge John Hudson, Gilbert Municipal Court Councilmember Eddie Cook Councilmember Brigette Peterson Councilmember Jordan Ray Councilmember Aimee Yentes Judge John Hudson administered the Oaths of Office to Councilmembers Eddie Cook, Brigette Peterson, Jordan Ray and Aimee Yentes. 4. Comments by: Councilmember Eddie Cook Councilmember Brigette Peterson Councilmember Jordan Ray Councilmember Aimee Yentes Councilmember Aimee Yentes expressed gratitude to her family and introduced them. She thanked her friends, the community for their support during the election cycle, and those who exercised their civic responsibilities by voting. She stated she was thankful, humbled, and excited for the opportunity to work with the Council and Town staff. Councilmember Eddie Cook thanked his wife and family for their support. He stated serving on the Council is a privilege and honor. He said he was humbled by the opportunity to “build community” and help create a “one team”. Councilmember Jordan Ray thanked the residents of Gilbert, the business community, the faith groups, and the voters who help make Gilbert a great community. He stated he looks forward to the opportunity to continue serving and thanked his family for their support. Councilmember Brigette Peterson stated it has been a privilege to serve on the Council. She thanked those who supported her during the election and helped with campaign signs. She thanked the Council, Gilbert staff, the Police and Fire Departments, and her family. ROLL CALL Town Clerk Lisa Maxwell called roll and declared a quorum present. ADMINISTRATIVE ITEMS 5. Approval of a Resolution of appreciation for Councilmember Victor Petersen. Mayor Jenn Daniels thanked Councilmember Victor Petersen for his sacrifice and service to the Town of Gilbert. Town Manager Patrick Banger thanked Councilmember Victor Petersen on behalf of 2 Town staff for his diligent work for the Town of Gilbert. Gifts were presented to Councilmember Victor Petersen. Councilmember Victor Petersen thanked his fellow councilmembers, Town staff, the community, and his family for their support. A MOTION was made by Councilmember Jordan Ray, seconded by Councilmember Brigette Peterson, to approve Item 5. Motion carried 7-0. Resolution No. 4028 was adopted. 6. COUNCIL ADMINISTRATION - consider Nomination and Selection of Vice-Mayor. A MOTION was made by Councilmember Scott Anderson, seconded by Councilmember Jordan Ray, nominating Eddie Cook to the Office of Vice Mayor in 2019. Motion carried 7-0.
